Re: Politics

Amazon will pay $0 in taxes on $11,200,000,000 in profit for 2018 I can absolutely see the reasonableness of handing them another 3 billion dollars in tax and saves incentives. I mean, they are barely squeaking bye! They have no idea where their next meal is coming from. So, yes, AOC was WAY off ba...

Re: Politics

You'd have to see an actuarial study but the politicians who brokered the NY Amazon deal claim the ROI is there and given the direct and indirect economic activity the project would bring I would tend to believe it - it's also possible Virginia negotiated a better deal with a quicker payback and NY...

Re: 2020 Election Thread

Generally people use "M" for millions. I've seen the MM designation for millions in professional settings but in this forum we've always used "M" for millions and "B" for billions. But, yes, I did miss that one. But, you can equally tone down the rhetoric. You throw a l...

Re: 2018 NFL Season

Ok, I missed that about Reid. My bad.

As for Kap, i saw he turned them down but didn't realize he was asking for $20M. If that's correct, well, that was pretty much him just saying "no". I doubt the entire payroll for that league is much higher than $20M.

Re: Politics

Unemployment in NYC metro is ~4%, which is a number that I think any politician would be happy with. Amazon was bringing in 25,000 jobs - half of which were tech jobs and the vast majority of the other half were jobs in legal, finance, HR, etc. Forget what you hear about janitors. There were going t...

Re: Book Reviews/Recommendations

So, after reading A Higher Call I was doing some general poking around the internet about some B17s. I discovered that the 1990 war movie Memphis Belle was actually based on a 1944 documentary on the real plane. It was a propaganda film put out by the War Department to help sell war bonds. You can f...

Re: 2018 NFL Season

The NFL has settled with Kaepernick and Eric Reid on their collusion case. The details of the settlement are confidential, but apparently both players had previously stated they would only settle if the NFL put forth a lot of money. So, take from that what you will. I have to believe that pretty muc...

Re: 2019 Recruiting Thread

IMO the solution is something we've bandied about before - allow these guys to make money of their own likeness or from endorsements while they are in school. For many of these guys the decision to go early stems from personal or family economic pressures. Relieve that and it serves the best intere...

Re: 2018 NFL Season

Plaxico Burress wasn't a Giant during Eli's rookie seaseon. He came the following year, in 2005. And, that 2004 team had a lot of talent but a lot of it was very young. That Oline was first coming together. As for Rosen, if he's available, I can't see how the Giants could get him without trading thi...

Re: 2020 Election Thread

And "rising party star" AOC just celebrated the accomplishment of chasing 25M high paying jobs and development out of her impoverished, blighted district. Amazon was going to hire 25 million people to come work in that location? Really? 25 million people? I'm going to take the under on th...
