Re: 2018 Baseball Season

One interesting thing I remember from the NYT article is that even the managing partner couldn't designate a successor on his own. It required a 2/3 vote of approval (one vote per ownership share). That became academic once Steinbrenner grew his ownership to 70 percent. And so Prince Hank was able t...

Re: 2018 Baseball Season

After Steinbrenner died, I distinctly remember an article in the NYT about his minority partners. He owned less than half the team when he first bought it, but he had the biggest single chunk and he was the (sole) managing partner. I doubt that even Yankee fans could name any of the partners without...

Re: 2018 Baseball Season

There's often an ownership group. When John Henry purchased the Red Sox in 2001, he became the principal owner. Larry Luchino and Tom Werner became minority owners and held executive positions with the club. They both had previous baseball executive experience (president/CEO) elsewhere and were well...

Re: 2018 NFL Season

Asked how Winslow feels about the allegations against him, attorney Brian Watkins said that it has “tarnished his reputation.” Yes, I suppose when you're being held for trial on 3 separate rape charges, your reputation will take a hit. Nice to see his wife is standing behind him. Given the grief I ...

Re: 2018 Baseball Season

I'm sure most who post here aren't old enough to remember, but the Brewers started out as the Seattle Pilots. They were an AL expansion team in 1969 (along with the KC Royals). The Pilots were an incredibly "low rent" operation. They played in a crappy minor league park that they had promi...

Re: Sparty Thread

You don't see a lot of rag tops (of any kind) around here. They're not practical for every-day use. Those who own them treat them as expensive "toys". My neighbor has an old/restored Alfa Romeo two-seater, but it never sees the light of day in the winter. It stays in the garage covered wit...

Re: Beer and Booze

Young man, there's no need to feel down
I said, young man, pick yourself off the ground
I said, young man, 'cause you're in a new town
There's no need ... to ...be ... unhappy

Re: Beer and Booze

Was that article purposely silly? If we have massive drought activity, isn't the price of a BLT also going to skyrocket? I like BLTs.

Re: 2018 Baseball Season

Maybe the Mets could pry George Costanza from the Yankees. He probably wouldn't object to being Jeff Wilpon's flunky.
