Re: 2018 Baseball Season

The problem isn't spending. The problem is they don't spend wisely.

They never should have fired this guy.
Big mistake.

Re: 2018 Baseball Season

He actually thinks the Mets can win WS in the next four years.

The Astros went from losing 111 games to winning a WS in four years, so it's doable. Whether the Wilpons can do it is another matter.

Re: 2018 Baseball Season

I put the game on for a few minutes. That park looks like it holds less people than the LL park. I presume a Class A team plays there?

Re: 2018 Baseball Season

Unfortunately, that perception of time racing by gets worse with age, not better. Much worse. The summers that seemed to last an eternity as a child now fly by in no time. I can not believe we're a week from Labor Day. And I can't believe my grandson is entering kindergarten. Seems like he was born ...

Re: 2018 Baseball Season

Lolich won three games in that series

All three of them complete games, BTW. The last one with 2 days rest. His arm must have been made of rubber.

Re: 2018 Baseball Season

The Phillies and Mets playing in the "Little League Classic". Seems appropriate. :P

Re: 2018 Baseball Season

My point is that 1971 is a long time ago in terms of baseball age. Perhaps, but the change is still startling. If you go BACK 47 years from 1971, then you're in the 1920s. If you looked at great pitchers from that era (Lefty Grove, Red Faber, etc.) you'd find that their best years were very similar...

Re: 2018 Baseball Season

Just for grins, I looked up Mickey Lolich, who had a rep for being a workhorse pitcher in the 60s/70s. In 1971, he pitched 376 innings, averaged over 8 Innings per start and had 29 complete games. And despite winning 25 games and having an ERA under 3, he came in 2nd in the CY voting. And that was 1...

Re: 2018 Baseball Season

It's not even my MLB. I still remember game 4 of the 1975 WS. The Red Sox had to have it. Luis Tiant didn't have his best stuff, but he was given a lead and refused to relinquish it. He threw 163 pitches in a complete game win.

That's obviously never going to happen again.
