Re: Politics

Nationwide, unauthorized immigrants are clustered in a few occupations, notably farming, fishing and forestry (26 percent of the workforce), building and grounds (17 percent), and construction and mining (14 percent). They comprise 24 percent of all groundskeepers, 23 percent of domestic workers an...

Re: Politics

Enforce labor laws preventing the use of illegal labor and make the fines hurt to the point companies will no longer take the risk - to the point if multiple offenses occur pull the operating license. Stop issuing social benefits to illegal aliens and direct it to legal immigrants and native born c...

Re: Politics

Any deal on immigration policy that doesn't include a way to secure the border is a waste of time, because the people sneaking across the border don't give a rat's ass about our immigration policy.

Re: Politics

I don't think it matters much. I think the Republicans can probably take the religious right for granted just as the Democrats do with African Americans. Because neither of those constituencies is likely to switch sides. The only thing I'm certain of is that neither party is worth a bucket of warm s...

Re: Politics

I can't imagine they thought they were voting for St. Francis of Assisi. I suspect most of them were holding their nose at the ballot like most people. But who knows. I don't live in the bible belt.

I think they may have acquired a bad rep from beer snobs over the decades because of the mediocre mass-brewed American varieties, but a well-crafted pilsner is a very enjoyable beer. Sam Adams has made a few pretty good pilsners...

Re: Beer and Booze

First, the beer. I've been on a pilsner kick lately.

My son bought me some Weihenstephaner Pils for Christmas. Very nice.

Re: Random Thoughts Again

You can't say with any certainty that nothing can happen to you or your family if you had a gun in your house I didn't say for certain. I said near zero. Accidental gun deaths are on the order of a few hundred a year. Just falling in your home (in the shower. down the stairs, etc.) claims 10x more ...

Re: Random Thoughts Again

You can remove suicides from the equation and you are still far more likely to be killed by a gun in your home than you are to shoot an intruder. I suppose this gets back to the fallacy of applying group statistics to individuals. If I had a gun in my home, the likelihood of me or my wife being kil...

Re: Random Thoughts Again

... guns kept in the home are far more likely to result in the shooting of someone who lives in that home than someone breaking in to that home. It's not a small margin, either. But that is heavily skewed by the fact that a vert (VERY) high percentage of gun deaths are suicides. I presume lama is p...
