Re: Sad News

Like the others, I am saddened to read this and enjoyed Akron here. I am glad you got to know him, Carl. I have not actually met anyone from these discussions but I consider you all friends; to actually meet and develop relationships is very cool. Deepest sympathies from Virginia.

Re: 2018 NFL Season

I read yesterday that the Giants were considering drafting a QB to help bring Eli along. I suppose it was a satire site, but there is truth in humor...

Re: Random Thoughts Again

Times were different then. Maybe that is too broad of a statement, but they have changed. Where I grew up, neighbors, regardless of age difference, would look out for everyone rather than come home and close the front door. My dad would ring a big bell when it was time to eat or come in for the nigh...

Re: Random Thoughts Again

Some great comments/memories on our collective childhoods here, for sure. I wonder how accurate the assessment of the modern youth is, however. I think kids still go out to play and get dirty and catch fireflies when the sun goes down. It is possible that there is less of it, or it is possible that ...

Re: Random Thoughts Again

By and large, stage four PanCan is a death sentence. Treatments are getting better and survival rates are increasing, but not quickly. The big problem is that warning signs rarely materialize until the disease has reached stage 3 or 4, meaning it has been lurking for maybe a decade or more. My fathe...

Re: Random Thoughts Again

I probably should have been more clear, B-Dub. He went in for monthly-ish screenings for maybe 18 months and was declared cancer free five years ago.

Re: Random Thoughts Again

I have probably told this before, but my father in law was diagnosed with stage 2 pancreatic cancer in early November 2010. When he went in for surgery after Thanksgiving, it was stage 4 but they proceeded and aggressively treated with chemo and radiation as much as he could tolerate. He now organiz...

Re: Former Players Thread

I agree with you regarding the pretense of protecting NCAA. MLB and NHL teams draft kids out of high school (I realize they have minor leagues) but those kids are allowed to still play in college. I know it’s different, but mainly because NCAA football wants it to be.

Re: Former Players Thread

I am not as ok, when you make it that cut and dried. Of course, I don’t know how the pay works since they have off season camps and practices. I don’t care if someone got paid while trying to make a pro team. If they get cut before the season starts, they should be allowed back. Of course, this is a...

Re: Former Players Thread

I don’t have an issue with anything you just posted. I do think that, if an 18 - 20 year old goes down that road and flames out, they should be allowed to return to a college team. I don’t know how the legalities would work, but it can’t be that hard.
