Re: 2018 Baseball OffseasonThread

Given the investment a team makes in a player's development, I don't think having control of the player at the MLB level for 6 years is outrageous. I also don't think someone like Mookie Betts should have to play for peanuts for 6 years when he's already one of the best players in MLB. I think the c...

Re: 2018 Baseball OffseasonThread

That was negotiated between MLB and the Player's Association. Each sport is different because each sport has it's own Player's Association and its own negotiated agreement with the owners of their league. Basically, a MLB team controls their young players for 6 full major league seasons before they ...

Not on a business trip. And I still have my bathrobe on.

Re: 2018 Baseball OffseasonThread

From 1965-1975 the Yankees were mired in mediocrity. They averaged about 80 wins a year and made no post-season appearances. Glorious times. The Golden Era of baseball.

Re: 2018 Baseball OffseasonThread

I remember him as a kid. Pretty good pitcher, but he spent most of his career in that period from the mid-60s to the mid-70s when the Yankees sucked. I vaguely remember him in the WS as a young pitcher ... perhaps his rookie season? (63? 64?) ... and I don't believe he ever got near a WS again.

Re: 2018 NFL Season

He didn't do that because he's an Eagles fan. He did it because he's an a-hole. My son's in-laws are Eagles fans. They're fine. The Houston Astros have a large number of fans who are goobers. But they aren't goobers because they're Astros fans. They just happen to be both Astros fans and goobers, in...

Re: Random Thoughts Again

I'm not arguing Gillette's motives. I just don't understand the appeal of the campaign.

Re: Random Thoughts Again

I admit that "marketing" is a confusing concept to people from my planet, but how does Gillette figure this lame-ass virtue-signaling campaign is going to increase revenue?

Re: 2018 NFL Season

He is as good as gone. That seemed to be the consensus of my son's in-laws at Christmas. They're all hardcore (but non-horse-poop-eating) Eagles fans. They're the ones who gave me all the details of Foles' contract. I like them and they've always treated me with respect, at least to my face. So I l...

Re: 2018 Baseball OffseasonThread

That is a serious, serious mid-read of the market. He went from 4 years, $60M to 1 year, $18.25M? I don't know the inner details, but I'd guess he went from 4yrs/60M ... to perhaps a lesser multi-year offer or two ... then said "uh-oh" ... and finally decided to grab great money (18M) for...
