Re: Random Thoughts Again

I was reading the account earlier of how that animal out in MN who kidnapped Jayme Closs. He apparently gave investigators a lot of details about how he went about this, and how he murdered her parents, including shooting her mother in the head with a shotgun right in front of her. I don't believe i...

Re: 2018 Baseball OffseasonThread

I just looked it up. He came up in 64 and retired in 74. So, you're right about his World Series apprearances. He saw the Yankees lose to the Cardinals in 7 in 64 and never got a sniff of October again. He was pretty much the staff ace of a crappy team. The Archie Manning of baseball. I remember him...

Re: Random Thoughts Again

No clue. How did Nike conclude that putting Kaepernick in their adds was going to boost sales? No clue on that one either, but it worked. I am not claiming that the correlation between increased sales and this ad campaign is intuitive or obvious. I am claiming that they would never have done it if t...

Re: Random Thoughts Again

Gillette is embracing the #MeToo movement in a new digital ad campaign aimed at men, the latest message from an advertiser attempting to change societal norms. I call bullshit. Gillette isn't attempting to change societal norms. They are attempting to cash in on an opportunity. This isn't PC run am...

Re: 2018 Baseball OffseasonThread

Maybe. But, a lot of things have changed since that Martin contract. Values have come down considerably for a lot of players. Maybe they thought cathcers were differnt. Or, maybe they thought the crazy return the Marlins wanted for Realmuto had inflated the potential for a solid catcher like Grandal...

Re: 2018 Baseball OffseasonThread

That is a serious, serious mid-read of the market. He went from 4 years, $60M to 1 year, $18.25M? There have been several teams linked to the Marlins about trading for Realmuto. None of the teams rumored to be interested in in trading for Realmuto were interested in giving Grandal more than 1 year? ...

Re: 2018 NFL Season

I am lousy at predicting the future, but I think it's more likely Foles is a Redskin than a Giant. The Redskins put all their eggs in the Alex Smith basket and that egg broke. The Giants are probably going to fumble around for a few weeks trying to figure out what they want to do whereas I bet the R...

Re: 2018 Baseball OffseasonThread

I meant to post this last week but didn't get a chance. Anyway, after the Mets signed Wilson Ramos, there was a report that they offered former Dodgers catcher Yasmani Grandal a 4 year, $60M contract and he turned them down. The general thinking was that Grandal thought he could do better. Then, las...
