I've seen several articles claiming that this was because a Chinese executive was arrested. Am I to believe that our economy is so fragile that if some executive gets arrested, everything goes into the toilet?
If that's true, then it's the sort of nonsense that has me believing that those who claim the massive growth in the DJIA the previous two years was largely about the demand for stocks rather than about corporate "fundamentals" and the strength of the economy. Stock price growth based on actual performance and rising corporate profits is reliable. You can hang your hat on that, But stock price growth based mostly on a demand for some place to invest is fickle and fleeting. People will run for the hills at any sign of trouble.

I saw that story, too. Who knows what's really going on.

Looking at the news wire, the suggestion is that it's the uncertainty on trade that is driving this and not the arrest of a single individual.
Seems reasonable but who knows.

Jeezus. What a beat-down. We could be below 24000 if this doesn't let up soon.

An old student reached out to me to have some coffee a few weeks ago. He just graduated and was in the area. It was great to see him. Anyway, he informed me that he would need to start repaying his students debt in a few months and that it would be 700 per month. I informed him that I would buy the coffee and anything else he wanted to stash in his pockets
That is an insane amount of money to owe coming out of college. I am not sure how I would have paid that off if I owed that much!

So, Dow futures are already tanking. Tomorrow morning is poised to be another blood bath. Hopefully it turns around after the initial collapse.

Futures have turned positive this morning so maybe today won't be bad. Maybe.
