Francona seemed to lose that team and I guess they felt they needed a change.

Francona was a "player's manager" and several of his players took advantage of him. In 2011, the Red Sox faded badly in September, blowing a big lead in the WC race. Then a story broke that a few of the Red Sox starting pitchers (Beckett, Lackey, Lester) had been regularly partaking of fried chicken and beer in the clubhouse during games (on days they weren't starting, obviously). Dreadful timing, give the late-season fade. The local media went icky-balooky.

If Francona didn't know about it, he probably should have. And if he did know about it, he should have put an end to it. Either way, that incident piled on top of the El Foldo probably cost him his job.

That's now 6 straight losses in potential series-clinching games for the Indians. Brutal.

Maybe Franconia gets fired again. Hope so. The mets could sure use him.

Probably not. I believe he's under contract for three more years. When the Red Sox let him go, his contract was up. He only had a (club) option year left, which the Red Sox didn't pick up.

Oh.

Stupid Indians. Can't even get getting rid of their manager right.

I'm available, if the Mets are still looking. I'm the logical choice for the Red Sox job, but I probably won't get it (again). It's all about who you know. Stupid politics.

Send your resume to Sandy Alderson. He's interviewing now. Just be warned - working for the Mets means working for Jeff Wilpon. Without knowing anything about your career, I'd venture to say he will be the worst boss you ever had.

(with apologies to Ernest Thayer)

Oh, all across the D.C. land, the clouds are deeply black,
The call-in lines are ringing, with Cubs fans talking smack;
With parents numb and crying, their children stare and pout,
But there is MUCH joy in Wrigleyville – mighty Harper has struck out!

Also, has anyone followed the weird story with the Braves? Braves’ rules violations in international market are ‘unprecedented’, per report. I've seen stories on this for a few weeks now but it's not clear to me exactly what they have done. But, several people in that front office have already been fired.
