With the Verizon MLB package, I get the home team broadcasters. So, I turn on the Mets-Reds game earlier and I have the Reds home feed. Tonight, they have a guest broadcaster in the booth: Joe Morgan.

Nope.

If the Mets were in a playoff hunt I'd endure that, but for a team trying to win 65 games? That's a whole lot of nope. I'll tune back in tomorrow.

The Book of Revelation describes a war in heaven during which the Archangel Michael defeats Satan. Afterwards, Satan is cast down to earth along with other fallen angels in Satan's entourage, where they form a baseball team originally known as the New York Highlanders.

A recreation of that epic battle of Good vs Evil begins this evening.

Verlander traded to Houston just before the waiver trade deadline.

Verlander cleared waivers. No one was willing to eat the 28M he's owed for both 2018 and 2019. Apparently, the Tigers had to kick in 16M in cash to make the deal. He's a shadow of what he used to be, but he's not a complete stiff. With run support, he could definitely help the Astros.

The Tigers have obviously decided they're not going to compete for a WS in the near future.

I know nothing about the 3 prospects they got back, but that's a lot of money to eat for 3 guys who may never make the big club.

I guess the math is eating $16M and not winning is better than eating all of it and not winning.

The Marlins are trying to trade Stanton. How much of that contract will they have to eat to get rid of him? Someone will bite, though. The Yankees? The Phillies? He would hit 50 home runs a year in either of those stadiums.

On the plus side for Verlander, he'll probably be able to pick up a nice fixer-upper home for next to nothing.

Too soon?

Too soon?

Maybe. I was going to make a comment about the two flotation devices Verlander would be bringing with him, but decided not to.

Mrs psu_dad: You just did.
Me: Oh well.

If his ERA is below 6 that beats nearly every Orioles starter

So was I. Even more disturbing....it's the first thing I thought of.
Yeah, well, that's like your opinion, man.
