You weren't wrong, but he got hurt and sustained two serious injuries and had two serious surgeries. That fact that he's playing at all after Thoracic Outlet Surgery is incredible. The odds of him coming back from that were not in his favor. He got a ridiculous amount of grief for not being able to come back faster from that. The problem was he was out living the highlife during his recovery when the press and many fans expected a monkish existence. Oh, and he came off as an entitled douchebag. That didn't help either. But, his career went off track due to two serious injuries. That's not really his fault.

Daniel Murphy signed with the Rockies. 2 years, $24M. He is going to rake in Coors Field.

Dodgers trade Matt Kemp, Yasiel Puig, Alex Wood to Reds for Homer Bailey, prospects. That sounds like they are cutting salary and making room. I'd be shocked if they didn't end up with one of Harper or Machado. Or, maybe both. They can certainly afford both.

Bill Ballou: Mariano Rivera not getting this writer’s Hall of Fame vote

The most amazing thing to me about this whole "controversy" is the idea that the first ever unanimous first ballot Hall of Fame inductee is a closer. It's nuts. If Ballou doesn't believe he belongs in there, he should not vote for him and vote for others who he does believe in. If he doesn't think anyone from this class belongs, that's fine, but that is not what he's saying. But, the idea that there is some obligation to vote for Rivera or not vote at all is moronic.

Poor Philly, nobody loves you.

I'm really dubious about this report. Even if it's true that neither Harper nor Machado wants to play in Philly, why would either let anyone know it? Why signal to the market that one suitor is out of contention? This has been swirling around for about 24 hours yet and I am really surprised there isn't been an official denial from either player. Very strange. Especially from Harper, who is represented by Boras. Boras is the king of propping up the market for his players. After reading this, I wouldn't be totally shocked if the Phillies landed both of them.

Numerous reports out this morning that Machado close to a deal with the Yankees.

He's not very popular around here since basically ending Dustin Pedroia's career with a take-out slide. So the Yankees are a perfect fit. He insisted he didn't tear up Pedroia's knee on purpose. He accidentally slid past the bag with his right foot 2 feet in the air. Everyone slides that way.

Friggn douchebag.

That would explain the Phillies interest in him as well. They haven't had an official douchebag on their team since they traded Utley to the Dodgers in 2015.

They are asking for a combined $700,000,000.00 or so, but have no World Series rings so far.
