I'm not even buying his story that this wasn't intentional. I think they deliberately messed with the ball to create more offense. Manfred had said in the past he wanted more offense and how he has it.

I tend to agree. I can maybe buy that they were only trying for a moderate increase in offense and accidently over-did it. But I'm not buying that this was not "intentional". And why on earth didn't they experiment with this new ball in AAA for a year before unleashing it on MLB?

Manfred. Goodell. It's amazing that you have these massive money-making enterprises being run by nincompoops.

Near as I can tell, the primary function of the commissioner of a major sports league is to ensure the money continues to roll in to the owners. I've seen no evidence at all that either Manfred or Goodell is not succeeding to meet that standard. And, that's all the oweners care about. So, they are doing a great job.

Phillies hired Charlie Manuel back as their "hitting coach".

If you are wondering if hiring a career .198 hitter as your new hitting coach is an endorsement of current manager Gabe Kapler - spoiler alert - it's not.

Phillies 34 year old closer and expensive off season free agent signing David Robertson requires TJ surgery and is out until probably the 2021 season.

That's a shame.

I noticed that Joe Kelly has an ERA of 4.69 and a WHIP of 1.44. And Craig "I want 100M" Kimbrel has an ERA of 5.68 and a WHIP of 1.67. Ten months ago they were the setup guy and closer for the WS Champion. Now they couldn't get me out.

So the pitchers who left suck and the pitchers who stayed suck. Which is nice.

I saw Chris Sale is shut down for at least 6 weeks with an elbow inflammation.

Oh well.

Nats 13, Pirates 0. Headline on the Pirates website: "Pirates Pitchers Roughed Up." Really? Ya think? Howsabout this headline for a change of pace: "Pirates Suck!! No, They Really Suck!!!" Bucs have won 4 games in August which begs the question: why am I still paying attention?
Yeah, well, that's like your opinion, man.

You are paying attention because there is nothing else to watch in August! Once football takes over the screen baseball will completely move to the back burner, at least for me!
