When lama gets back to 1983, he's going to hear lot about the new CD (compact disc) format. Don't buy the hype! Buy the best Betamax tape player you can find.

PS - Bring me back a box of Screaming Yellow Zonkers.

Shame the Phillies bullpen imploded. Also, Aaron Nola becomes the latest recent high priced extension or signing to drop a deuce on the bed. Couldn't get out of the 4th inning today. That's a shame.

Grienke has made up for his sins, though. Go check out his line from last night. 10Ks and he went yard twice! I doubt a pitcher has had a game like that since Babe Ruth.

Back in the early '70s, the Red Sox had a couple of pitchers who could hit.

One was Ken Brett (older brother of George). He hung around MLB for something like 14 years as a mediocre lefty pitcher. But his lifetime BA was .260. The Red Sox sometimes used him as a pinch hitter. Another one was Sonny Seibert. He was just a decent middle of the rotation guy, but as pitchers go, he could also hit. I believe his career BA was over .200. I once saw him hit 2 HRs in a game I attended.

Me: I have a lot of them.

Degrom went yard tonight. And has 11Ks so far. Not sure he will get another AB (it's the 7th) but his pitching at least surpassed Greinke.

Thanks for reminding me - I'm going to stock up on Danish-Go Rounds.

As exciting as this Orioles start is the numbers will catch up to them - they don't even have 4 starters - in two games they have used bullpen guys to cobble together 9 innings. Cumulative, I suspect their pen guys will log more innings than starters this year. And the $21MM man is hitting a crisp 0.000 so far. Expected breakout player Cedric Mullins if off to about an 0.83 start and the new SS is hitting 0.071.
Wendall : That's very linear Sheriff
Ed Tom : Age will flatten a man Wendall

I am feeling similar about the Mets, but for slightly different reasons. The starting pitching looks great but the pen has been a bit of disappointment. And, more to the point, Calloway's use of the pen has been awful.

The Mets also need to get some of their hurt guys back soon because they are playing a few AAAA kids right now and they really can't play D. It would be one thing if they had another 156 games against the Marlins but they don't. They need to improve their D and the pen needs to step up or they are going to run into the same issues that bit them last year. But, I'm enjoying 5 - 1 for now.

I'm in the opposite camp. The Red Sox season has mostly been a dumpster fire so far, but they have too much talent to keep sucking. Fortunately, the Yankees are also off to a bad start, particularly considering their opposition. I thought they might have a 4 or 5 game lead by the time the Red Sox got back from the west coast. So much for that. Eighteen Ks for the Yankees yesterday, while facing a nobody with a career ERA of 5.02. Jeezus.

PS - Let's go O's!

The Pirates bullpen is already in midseason form by blowing leads to the Cardinals each of the last two days. I don't understand why the starting pitcher needs pulled when he hits 80 pitches?

Yankees have a lot of injuries. If they don't get healthy it could be a long year.

It's under 10 games played. You can't read anything into the first week of a 6 month season.
