MLB attendance continues to drop. But, sure, let's move the pitcher back and see if that helps.

If anyone is wondering what happened to the board, I think the fact that it came down when the Red Sox were still losing and popped back on when they were 3 games over .500 and back in the hunt for the AL East should provide a pretty big clue as to who is really responsible.

Hmmmmm.......

Bill Buckner's family announced his passing "after a long battle with dementia". His poor health was not widely reported, if at all, so it came as a surprise around here.

Bill Buckner took much grief from fans and media alike following the '86 series loss to the mets. He eventually made peace with his place in baseball history to the point where he appeared as himself in a Curb Your Enthusiasm episode which, of course, made fun of his famous flub of Mookie Wilson's slow roller to first. May he rest in peace. His passing, along with that of Bart Starr, is poignant for me. Buckner was not much older than me and Starr was my first sports hero. My dad bought me a Green Bay Packers helmet when I was ten years old, and my mother sewed #15 on a green sweat shirt of mine. At that tender age, I truly believed I would become an NFL QB just like Bart Starr. Today, I effing hate getting old.
Yeah, well, that's like your opinion, man.

Phillies OF Odúbel Herrera was charged with assaulting his 20 year old girlfriend and has been put on administrative leave which means he's out a minimum of 7 days. The police report said she had physical signs of being grabbed on her neck. I think the plan is that he sits until the facts are all sorted out.

Anyway, the Phillies are doing better than I expected (excuse me while I vomit) and they are doing it while Harper is making them look foolish for giving him all that cash. The Nationals, who's bullpen I thought would be the strenght of that team, are awful. And, their pen is a large part of the reason. They are a disaster. The Mets are sitting at .500 and 5 games back.

It's not even June 1. A lot can happen. I thought the NL East would be a 3 team race most of the year, but I picked the wrong 3 teams. I figured the Braves would be coming in 4th, not the Nats. Oh well.

"Yankees have a lot of injuries. If they don't get healthy it could be a long year. " -- B&W, April 4 2019.

This. On top of predicting the Red Sox to take the AL east. You are engaging in the single-handed ruination of my friggin summer, weeks before it even starts. Stop already.

Jeezus H. Krist, I hate baseball.

So, Phillies trade for Bruce and, just as he arrives, lose McCutchen for the year with a torn ACL. As a Mets fan, I like the swap of Bruce for McCutchen. Sure, Bruce has a ton of power but he's otherwise batting .227. He's really a feast-or-famine guy and, I think, less of a threat than McCutchen is.

Btw, the Phillies are out in front but their $33M man is not doing his part to keep them there. Harper is batting .247 (which is up from where he is) and has only 11 homeruns. You can get that kind of production for a fraction of the money. I realize that having Harper in the lineup changes how you pitch to the middle of that order, but at some point he really needs to produce .

I had Boomer & NotCarton on for a short while as background noise this morning. Vinny from Queens was not a Happy Camper.
