I think the countdown on Mickey Calloway has officially started. And, I'm all for firing him. But, after that you need to fire the owner too, and that's not going to happen.

The countdown on Alex Cora began when he blew the first game of the 2018 season.

Mrs psu_dad: Why won't you let that go?
Me: Because my ring never arrived. I think Cora blackballed me.

Brewers utility man, Hernan Perez, pitched the 9th inning last night and imitated various pitchers!! Watch the video as it is hilarious!! I am glad he was able to give the fans something to cheer about even though their team was getting its ass kicked!

Kimbrel signed with the Cubs. Didn't see any details so it may be a one year deal. But, he's off the market. Given where he could have ended up I'm not too upset he's with the Cubs.

I don't follow the Cubs, but apparently they've already had 11 blown saves this year. The Red Sox bullpen is shaky, but Good Grief.

It's being reported on mlb.com that Kimbrel sign a a three-year deal worth $43 million. WTF? I hope that's incorrect. He could have had that deal with the Red Sox 8 months ago. It's just a fraction more than the Red Sox had been paying him. What happened to his demand for 6 years and $100 million?

Obviously his demand wasn't met and he had to adjust. As for the Sox, did they offer him something like that? I thought (and could be way off here) they only offered him the Qualifying 1 year offer and didn't put a longer term deal on the table.

He clearly misread the market. There was some good money to be had for relievers this past offseason. They were one of the few areas that had real demand for their services last winter and there was some good money handed out. I don't ever remember relievers getting paid like this. But, 6 years/$100M was just stupid and clearly far more than the market was going to bear. If hadn't started out so unreasonably high I bet he could have gotten more than he got here. Oh well.

I don't recall what (if anything) the Red Sox officially offered him. I do recall that last year it was reported his agent said the price was 6yr/100M and that Kimbrel would not miss out on his chance to explore the FA market for less. So the Red Sox made the Qualifying Offer right after the World Series to avoid losing him with nothing in return.

My point was that he signed for just a fraction more than the Red Sox had been paying him. And only 3 years. I can't believe the Red Sox wouldn't have agreed to that. But you're right. Ultimately this falls under the "Oh well" category. Kimbrel took a shot, it didn't work, but he still landed on his feet.

20 years ago I bought my first house. It was ~75 years old at that point and the hard wood floors were really, really thin. I decided to get them refinished and got a quote. The guy comes in, gives me a quote and says something like "these floors are really thin and refinishing them will only help so much. For another $1,200 I can drop a new floor in". I said "no thanks" and regretted it pretty much immediately. When I was finally ready to sell the house, I had to replace the floors first, and it cost me almost double what that original guy offered to do it for.

My point is that you think you know something and have an informed position and it's not until much later that you realize you were wrong - and it's too late to do much about it. My guess is if the Red Sox had put $50M for 3 years on the table last winter he would never have accepted it. But, now, with the advantage of hindsight, he realizes htat would have been a good deal for him.

Oh well.

And speaking of FA relief pitchers, I noticed that former Red Sox set-up guy Joe Kelly, who the Dodgers seriously over-payed, has an ERA of 7.91 and a WHIP of 1.81.
