The Mets paid Familia $5M more than the Dodgers paid Kelly and he's sporting an ERA of 6.56 and a WHIP of 1.541. Not Joe Kelly bad but not what was expected when they handed him $10M a year for 3 years.

Twins Max Kepler went deep 3 times tonight against Cleveland's Trevor Bauer. I can't believe Francona left Bauer in to face Kepler a 3rd time..

Last year, the Yankees set the all-time MLB record for HRs in a season. And the Twins are on pace to crush that record.

Reports that David Ortiz was shot in the leg during a burglary. He's in the hospital in the Dominican Republic. Not sure on his condition but, presumably, a leg wound isn't life threatening.

Update: Ortiz was shot in the lower back, not the leg, and it's more serious than what I originally saw reported. ESPN stating this morning that he's in stable condition.

Tell that to Sean Taylor.

Tim Tebow has played in 48 games in AAA this season. He's batting .149 with 1 homerun, 14 RBIs with 65 Ks in 154 at bats (meaning he strikes out 42% of the time). He's also managed to draw 15 walks. By any objective measure, he is completely overmatched and overwhelmed in AAA.

In unrelated news, Tim Tebow also leads all AAA players in fan voting for the AAA All Star game. All Star games are a bit of a joke and minor league all star games are even more of a joke. But, Tim Tebow playing in the all star game is ridiculous. There should be a requirement that you bat at least .200.

Dad seems to be missing. I supsect he's sitting at David Ortiz's hospital and waiting for news that he's ok.

Man, that story seems to get weider and weider. The original report was it was a burglary and random. Now they are saying some drug lord may have put a hit out on him and that a crooked cop may have been part of it. Red Sox had him flown up last night and taken to Mass General.

Anyway, if anyone is looking for dad, I suspect he's at Mass General keeping a vigil.

I've been out of town. Just returned last night. I saw my grandson play two epic t-ball games.

I don't know what's going on with David Ortiz, but I can't imagine that having a bullet penetrate your liver and intestines is a good thing, even if he survives. I'm not following the reports closely, because I know from experience that the media are content to report complete nonsense until it's actually known what happened.
