The Flyers didn't lose the series because the refs missed the tripping call. They lost because in their 4 losses they gave up goal totals of 7, 5, 5 and 8 (respectively). And they were shut out twice, to boot.
The fact is the last time they won the Stanley Cup disco wasn't even relevant yet. And they are not even in the same class as the Penguins, or even the Capitals right now. They're just not. They need to get out if 1975, and soon. This is really frustrating.
I've been hearing it from flyers fans today about the refs and the no-call on the alleged tripping call. It happened directly in front of the ref. Letang's stick hit the puck first on a one-handed swipe. Couturier launched himself into the air like he was shot out of a cannon. How could a one handed swipe launch him a foot into the air? If anything, you could just as easily make a case for embellishment....like the ridiculous embellishment call against Hornquist in game 3 where he was face planted into the glass but tagged with a penalty. For the most part, the refs let the players play instead of assessing an emmert-load of ticky-tack penalties. As it should be in playoff hockey.
