There's not going to be any serious gun legislation. There's only going to be another spike in guns sales at the mere prospect of serious gun legislation.

And I don't know how we can establish that someone is "competent and fit" to own a gun. We're not going to send all applicants to a psychiatrist. All we can do is check for a prior record of their lack of fitness. If they're nucking futs but haven't previously drawn the attention of authorities, then we're screwed. That Vegas shooter? His only recorded interaction with law enforcement was a minor traffic citation years ago.

With that kind of attitude, which I get is probably fairly realistic, nothing will change. There has to be a better way, not that I know what that is, of course. But I hope we can figure it out. The Vegas shooter may have had a clean record, but that isn’t alway the case. The cat that shout up the neighborhood church had a dishonorable discharge from the service (Air Force, I think) so much so that he should not have been able to but a gun. It’s not a perfect system, I know, but our forefathers didn’t promise perfect, just more perfect. If we give up on that the experiment fails.

It takes a village to raise a child! The shooter was expelled at some point. We have all this money to give to all these countries yet we cannot hold shitty parents accountable. I am sorry, but parents need to step up and learn to raise their children. I would love to see some sort of study done on the relationship between these school shooters and their parents

With that being said, sending positive mojo to all families involved.

Apparently "Stormy Daniels" and her lawyer feel that Trumps legal team breached the NDA she signed in return for the $130,000 they paid her, and she's now ready to tell her story. School shootings are so common we've all grown emotional calluses to them, and 17 dead teenagers can't possibly hold the nations attention beyond tomorrow when there is a porn star willing to talk about her affair with a President.

This will get a mention on the Sunday morning talk shows, and that will be the end of it. Again. I'm surprised these things even make the news anymore.

17 kids dead because another kid walked into school with a weapon capable of dispersing lots of rounds in a short amount of time.

And we will hear all about mental health and evil and blah blah blah. But we are unwilling to acknowledge what appears to be a fairly straightforward conclusion: the fact that this kid was able to get his hands on a weapon like this IS the problem.

I can't yell "Fire" in a crowded theater because of common sense restrictions on my first amendment rights. But limit the 2nd amendment in ways that make sense? No damn way.

Sorry, but this is just fucking nuts.

It's ok, Nat. The Stormy Daniels story will be in full swing soon and take it all away. And by "it" I mean the coverage of murdered children.

You're a lawyer, B-Dub... Is she correct in her thinking that since Trumps lawyer came out and admitted making the payment, is the NDA nullified? My gut instinct would think that it is, but since I have never had an agreement like that (the closest I came was with a no compete clause when I got a job doing fiber optic terminations) so I am not sure.

Not that it really matters as I am fairly sure why she had that agreement in the first place... Sometimes I wonder how we ever sank so low.

I'm not sure it matters. I suspect her attorney figures that she can do as she pleases because there's no way a sitting president is going to create a spectacle by filing suit against a porn star, This affair happened 12 years ago. It's not a coincidence she's trying to cash in on it now.

Lion - the answer to your question rests in an agreement I've never read. It's not a general principle of law that is in play here but what was agreed to by the parties. And, I have no idea what the document says. My inclination is actually the opposite of yours, though, and I tend to doubt it was so poorly drafted that the admission that the payment was made is enough to nullify it, but who knows.

It's academic, though. There is nothing they can do to stop her now. Suing her only validates whatever her story is. And, here's the really fun part - Cohen's story about making the payments on his own, without any compensation or pay back from Trump or his campaign, really creates a conundrum for him. If he sues her for breach, what are his damages? I suppose he can get his $130k back (which I'm sure she will have no problem coming up with after she writes a book, or whatever) but Trump can't go after her for violating this NDA because, per Cohen, he has no standing. And if he says he's going to sue her over it he is then arguably confessing to violating campaign finance laws and that could potential create serious legal problems for both him and Cohen. And, if Cohen told the same story to federal investigators (I have no idea if he did) then he could face perjury charges. So, he really boxed himself in.

I have no idea what prompted him to open his mouth about all this. Perhaps it was because there was a federal investigation into campaign law violations and he felt this was the best way out of it. But, they had to have known that opened the door for her to start yapping.

Who knows. I can't believe this is all actually happening. 17 people were murdered by a lunatic who shot up a school and even we are guilty of focusing on the freak show in the corner.

Thanks for the answer, B-Dub. You pointed out things I would not have considered, but maybe should have if I am close to as intelligent as I like to think.

You are also very correct in our collective attention span and/or prioritization. Not that there is a whole lot we can do regarding these incidents one way or the other.
