It was the third of June, another sleepy, dusty Delta day.

I hope you're not planning to jump off a bridge.

Nah, I've got plenty to live for. Plus I'm not in Mississippi!

While we're on the subject, what's the deal with black-eyed peas? I've never had them, but they look more like beans to me.

Marcia Cross says her anal cancer is linked to HPV and husband's throat cancer

Cancer isn't funny and I really don't want to poke fun at anyone having it, even if it's treatable and not life threatening. So, with that said: damn, that is one poorly written headline.

I'm going to go look for a 6-foot pole with which I'm not going to touch that.

So I have been making resin river tables for the last year and a half. I had to purchase a least 2-3 thousand dollars worth of equipment. My wife and i file a joint return, she works for the state, I teach. Does it make sense that I should add all of these to my taxes. I didn't make money this year due to all of my initial expenses. Does it make sense to go to an H&R Block ( I have on of these 5 minutes away), do nothing and just file jointly, or go to a private accountant instead of someone from H&R Block?

I'm not an accountant so tough to answer. But, I think the answer is "it depends". If you have an actual organized business you can take the deduction and carry it forward to when you do have profit. Also, this may count has capital assets you have to depreciate.

If you're just adding it all to your personal income, then if your total deductions don't exceed $24,000 it's probably moot.

If there is real money involved I'd say an actual accountant. But, if we're talking a few thousand either way and your deductions are not near 24K, I'd probably not waste the money.

One other thing: you know who else isn't an accountant? Most of the people who do tax returns for H&R block. Don't waste your time with them.
