A couple guys are convinced the girl I mentioned from my gym is an escort - my response was "where's the sign up sheet, now excuse I need to go to my bank".
I would say my only blessing is this old dog can only bark about that now - too old to hunt them yoga pants girls.

I believe I've only had one flight postponed for mechanical failure that wasn't eventually cancelled. But they didn't fix the plane, they replaced it. It was a morning flight so they had ample time. Six or seven hours later we were in the air. We didn't go home to wait because they kept stringing us along by incrementally increasing the estimated boarding time.

I agree they're probably worried about liability if a "quick fix" doesn't completely resolve the problem. Better to inconvenience the customer. What are they going to do? Drive to Phoenix?

I've had 2 mechanical issues with planes that I can recall.

The first was my honeymoon. We couldn't get out of Newark due to a mechanical issue. We had a connection on Miami on our way to Costa Rica and we had an itinerary for each day. I was afraid missing the connection in Miami would screw up the whole trip. We did miss the connection and it turned out not to be that big a deal. The airline got us in a few hours later, and we were on our way. It all worked out.

the second was I was coming back from Wellington, New Zealand. It was a long, long freaking trip and made longer by my corporate travel agent who set us up with a 7.5 hour layover in Sydney. We had no idea it was that long until we got there. And, because we didn't have a visa, we could not leave the airport. Anyway, from Sydney we flew from San Francisco. From SF we were supposed to fly to JFK. We took off from San Fran for the final leg of the trip and about 15 minutes later the pilot gets on and says the plane is showing a light that there is no hydrolic fluid - which they need to move the flaps and such - and we need to make an emergency landing. They are afraid to turn the plane so they have us fly a straight line to the closes airport you can fly a straight line to: Vegas. So, we get held up in Vegas for a few hours. We finally diverted a flight going from LA to JFK to pick up a handful of passengers. I walked in to the apartment my wife and I lived in (this is 3 months after we got married) 42 hours after my trip started. And, man did I stink. Was a long, long day.

I've had 2 mechanical issues with planes that I can recall.

I've had two I recall besides the one I mentioned. One required an extra night spent in Albuquerque. They put us up in a nice hotel at the airport, we had a terrific complimentary dinner and flew back first thing in the morning.

The other required an extra night spent in Cleveland. They bused us to a hotel that resembled the one in Barton Fink. The kitchen was closed and there was no way I was wandering out of that place to search for food.

I had one flight delay while on the ground. I was in the Navy and we watched out the porthole while mechanics worked for nearly two hours before we were finally cleared to take off. That was a nervous flight from the Azores back to Charleston. The other was a commercial flight fri Atlanta to Tokyo. We got into Canadian airspanefore encountering a problem with one of the air conditioners. Had to turn back and land I Detroit, wait for a repair and a new crew to take over (something g to do with rules a crew can be awake). Ended up getter no into Narita too late to get to Yokosuka and lost our hotel reservations for the 3 week stay. Great times!

Yikes. I guess my night in a creepy hotel wasn't so bad.

We ended up in a pretty crappy hotel a mile or two farther out. They had a shuttle to work, but it was a nuisance to say the least. All the good bars were close to base so we had a much longer stagger home at the end of the night. Good thing for me that I wasn’t into the bar crawl thing like the younger guys.

Why would you - you're already in Heaven (although the Phoenix metro area is getting a bit crowded).

I was thinking about Kingman for retirement - have you heard much about the area?
