If your a frequent business traveler and you catch your boss in a sympathetic move (say he didn't give as big a raise as he wanted) ask for company to pay for airline club membership or an airline CC that gives you elite status. You usually get free bag check in (which pays for card itself), seat upgrades and with club access you can get a good place to work during layovers/ delays and if there are delays you can actually get help from an agent and not be amongst the hoards in the terminal at the service desk like somebody awaiting apocalypse famine relief.

I ain't a fancy guy but paying for status for air travel, in my mind - is worth it.

My employer isn't going to pay for that, but you've got me thinking it's worth looking into paying for it on my own.

I can get them to pay for the TSA pre-check, though.

I've never had an airline club membership, but my boss did on my last job. I traveled with him often and he was allowed to bring one guest into the club. Drinks. Snacks. Comfy chairs. Announcements for each flight boarding. Pretty sweet, especially if a flight was seriously delayed.

Pardon me. Do you have any Grey Poupon?

I traveled enough to gain a US Air club membership long ago, I'd advise you to do so. It's great to be able to escape the huddled masses and have a quite place where you are treated nicely. Lots a benes in a club. Go for it Bdub.
So I got that going for me...which is nice. It's a cross between Kentucky Bluegrass, Featherbed Bent and Northern California Sensimilla so you can play 36 holes on it,take it home at night and get stoned to the begesses belt

Newark TSA: why did you put your tablet in a bin? Are you stupid?

Charlotte TSA: make sure you take all tablets out of your bags and pit them in their own bin or be labeled a terrorist and a hater of America.

But these randomly created and enforced rules are for my benefit and my safety.

Right.

So, I'm on a flight with new seats. Apparently the airlines are not aware of the obesity problem in America. At one point this plane would have had 2 and 2. Then maybe 2 and 3. Now it's 3 and 3 and these seats are tight.

I'm on the aisle and people can't get by without slamming into me. I'm amazed there is not more violence on airplanes than we've already seen.

I know it's political dynamite, but there really needs to be a personal weight limit on airplanes. I'm not saying you should be prevented from flying if you're obese, but you should definitely be required to purchase 2 seats. I once had to sit next to a ginormous person and had to spend the entire flight leaning over into the aisle. I was seated near the front of the plane and when I boarded I could see the person spilling out into my seat area. I turned to address the flight attendant and she immediately read my mind before I said a word. "I'm sorry. We're full", she said. Had this not been a time-critical business-related flight, I would have gotten off and demanded a refund. But I was stuck on that flight.

Total nightmare.

Oh do I want to see the first time this happens. "OK ma'am, how wide is your ass. Wait a minute until I get my yardstick." I want to be a fly on the wall for that conversation.

Turns out if you do a google search on fat people on planes you get a lot of hits.

Here's one.

Several years ago on a flight to Atlanta I got stuck in a middle seat stuck between a Sumo wrestler and Tony Rocky Horror of Pulp Fiction fame. It's a ~2 hour flight and I got crushed between these 2 guys spilling over onto me for the whole 2 hours.

I am all for the idea of if you take up more than the 1 seat you pay for 2 seats. But, I'm also a fan of the airlines not assuming all their passengers are anorexic teenage girls either. The seats on my flight yesterday are narrow. My problem wasn't my belly spilling over, it was fitting my shoulders in the seat.
