They were working overtime last night. Good grief.

I'm in NYC and spent the train ride in banning spammers and cleaning the board. Major pain in the ass.

I need to figure out how to get the rest of you moderator rights. There is no reason I'm the only person who can clean the board.

What is the attraction to this board? We are not that big are we? To drive demand or $$$? Maybe I'm not grasping the size of this board?
So I got that going for me...which is nice. It's a cross between Kentucky Bluegrass, Featherbed Bent and Northern California Sensimilla so you can play 36 holes on it,take it home at night and get stoned to the begesses belt

I don't know what the attraction is. I suspect these are bots doing it, and they are programmed to locate website that host certain types of software. Maybe it'a a live person doing this but I just don't think so. I am convinced these are computer programs who are exploiting some vulnerability inherent in whatever program Mark uses to run the board. I think it's a problem across the internet, too, and not unique to us. So, we have to deal with it.

I'm traveling this week and heading to the airport in a few hours. So, my ability to clean the board between now and Saturday will be slightly limited. I'll try to find breaks in the day to check in and take out whatever spam I can, but you will all have to bear with me if we get hit a lot while I'm out. Just don't click on anything.

So it may be blind opportunity, vulnerability driving the attacks with the hope of some $$$ along the way I imagine?

I suspect it's more about trying to get people to click on links. My guess is once you do, a virus is implanted in your PC and probably a few Trojan Horses as well. Once in there, all kinds of fun things can happen. They can capture key strokes and steal passwords, credit card details, or use your PC as a base-point for hacking activities. The sites themselves are not generating money (although some of them may, I suppose). It's the crap they infect your PC with that generates money by stealing it.

Everyone just needs to make sure they don't click on any of those posts. I zap them as quickly as I can.

This isn't my area of expertise, but given the advanced state of word processing software, I'm surprised that BB software can't weed out most of these posts. My email software is able to detect even subtle grammatical errors. A dead give-away for much spam is outrageously bad grammar. Gibberish, really. Those posts can't be detected/eliminated automatically? And the ones written in Cyrillic make me nuts. How can that be difficult to detect?
