Here's one that will make Dad's hair hurt. Seems David Price had a bit of an attitude problem last year.

I totally get that. If I was making a mere $31.75M a year, I'd be pretty cranky too.

Emotionally, he's a terrible fit for this team. He has very thin skin. And he's playing in a market where the print media prides themselves on their douchebag credentials. Plus he's not into beating himself up after a bad outing. He's more likely to say something like "It's no big deal. When I get home my dog will still love me." ... which of course invokes more criticism ... and then the thin skin kicks in again ...

His agent did him no favor by making $$$ the sole criterion for where he signed.

Mets signed Jason Vargas for 2 years, $16M. There is a club option for the 3rd year. There are also some incentives in the contract.

As a side note - you have to be really suspicious of what is going on when the Mets are leading the pack in free agent acquisitions in a given season. They've added Jay Bruce, Todd Frazier, Jason Vargas and Anthony Swarzak. That's not a bad haul and a lot more than most teams have done. Weird. Because the Mets are ridiculously cheap.

A mere 40 days away until opening day. Hopefully that helps you pass the time enjoyably.

Eric Hosmer to the Padres. 8 years, $140M. Well, he got his years, he got his money, he has the best climate in the world, but he's going to spend the remainder of his career fighting for 4th place.

Red Sox sign JD Martinez for 5 years/$110M.

The pieces are all starting to come off the board. Hard to believe that's considered a "bargain" but I guess given where his numbers started at expectations have come further into focus.

It's being reported that the contract is front-loaded ... two years for 50M then 3 years for 60M. And he has an opt-out after 2 years. So I suppose if he has two great years, he can try for bigger bucks. Either way is fine. At least they won't be paying him until he's 40.

Odd team. They have a large payroll and a starting rotation that can't pitch their way out of a paper bag come October. But I suppose they'll put butts in seats.

Bob Watson is not doing very well, these days.

That's unfortunate. I remember Bob from his playing days. And, even thought I was a little kid at that time, I remember him as a Houston Astro. That's probably because he had a brief cameo in the second Bad News Bears movie where he helps kick off the cheer of "Let Them Play".

That might have been one of the lamest sequels in the History of Sequels.

It wasn't even the lamest Bad News Bears movie. The one where they go to Japan was infinitely worse.
