Outside of the commissioner and (I presume) some owners,I can't find anyone who thinks this is a good idea. Perhaps they know something I don't know, but I suspect baseball will catch on in England right about the same time that cricket catches on here.

So, the Mets are finally going to open a season with a rotation of Syndergaard, DeGrom, Harvey, Wheeler and Matz. This was the 5 man rotation that was talked about back heading into 2015 that was going to win back-to-back-to-back World Series, but could just never stay healthy. In fact, the only reason all of them are in the rotation to start the season is due to an injury to a pitcher they signed (Wheeler otherwise will probably start the season in the pen). So, since they are finally able to start, Syndergaard made a statement that they need a nickname. I know people are not that interested in the day to day stuff of the Mets, but some of the submissions I read on the train back were pretty funny. The best I saw were:

The Fragile 5
The Magnificent MRIs
Generation KO
The Cortisone Crew
The Splendid Splints
The Perpetual Patients

I like the Fragile 5 the best, personally.

I just learned that (former pitcher) Sammy Stewart died a couple of weeks ago at 63.

I remember an article in the Boston Globe about him 10 or so years ago. He was in prison at the time. His life went completely into the toilet after baseball ... addicted to crack ... in and out of prison multiple times for possession ... homeless and penniless. He got out of prison a few years ago and appeared to be getting it together ... but who knows.

That sucks. Here is a story on Stewart. I hadn't realized all that happened to him.

Ed Charles of the Miracle 69 Mets died this week, too. He was 84.

Orioles signed pitcher Alex Cobb. 4 years/$60M. Not an outrageous amount for baseball standards, but surprising they paid that much given how the market has gone who else was bidding for him? But, this slightly above average pitcher may now be the O's staff ace.
