It seems like a lot of teams are going the direction of the manager being a conduit for what the front office wants to do. Metrics are going to dominate everything and the number of individual decisions a manager makes will be reduced.

I'm indifferent to it, generally, but that it's probably making Joe Morgan's head explode makes me lean towards liking it.

Japanese star Shohei Ohtani has signed with the Angels. I have no idea if this guy will be any good or not but I'm glad he's in the AL just in case.

CBS is reporting the Marlins just traded Stanton to the Yankees. Man, that team is going to hit a ton. I could probably manage that lineup to the post season.

I have full confidence that the Red Sox pitching staff will stymie them.

The funniest comment I saw about Stanton was someone wrote that if he gets traded to Houston they will have to add safety netting to the upper tier of the left field seats to protect people. I laughed.

Article on philly.com today discusses how the new Philly braintrust is committing to starting pitchers facing a lineup only twice, which meshes with a 13-man staff philosophy. So you go five innings, at best, then schlep 3 or 4 (or more!) relievers into each and every game - unless of course it's extra innings, and then you get to treat fans to a real bullpen schlep-o-rama.

I hope I die before the MLBPA insists on 30-man rosters so starters don't have to go more than three innings. Not to mention bullpen-hotel accommodations for the mass of arms out there.

Pffft - .... Orioles pitchers generally had faced the oppositions line up twice by the 3rd inning

I'm hoping they realize they need to start the fire sale soon and get either the Red Sox or Phils to overpay for Machado and get whatever they can for Jones and Britton before they walk.

I see another decade of futility on the horizon.

Oh - start laughing B&W - I've seen reports the Orioles are talking to Mets about Harvey.

Lot of chatter that the Phils definitely won't be pursuing Machado or any other high-profile multiyear FA this winter. Still too far from respectability in '18.

I've seen those reports too. The Rangers offered some navel lint for him so the price is already starting to get steep.

Perhaps the Red Sox will make an offer. But they would need assurance from the Mets that he'll suck in October, otherwise no deal.
