It doesn't take a lot of imagination to imagine him saying "Nice game, pretty boy" to Keith Hernandez.

I bet he loathes Keith Hernandez.

Also, anyone remember a pitcher named Esteban Loaiza? Well, he's become a Soundgarden song as he's fallen on black days.

20 kilos ... Good Grief ... pretty hard to use the "personal use" defense, unless you're Charlie Sheen.

Ha! I was just thinking "he should say he was visiting Charlie Sheen"!

That's hilarious.

According to TMZ, he first came into suspicion when the police noticed a “sophisticated aftermarket compartment used to conceal contraband” in his car during a minor traffic stop. Then they got a warrant to search his house and and his life went down the toilet. The irony is that he was actually using the compartment to hide boxes of Nutty Bars from his wife. He's probably the clown who got me in trouble.

PS - How "sophisticated" is this compartment if a traffic cop can see it and know exactly what it is?

It may have been a routine traffic stop but it may not have been a routine search where it was just "spotted". My guess is his lawyer will be arguing that the initial search of the car that identified the compartment was illegal, and therefore the subsequent warrant was illegal and all the evidence should be suppressed.

At least, if his lawyer is worth his weight in spam he'll argue that. Doesn't mean it will be successful but that's absolutely step 1.

If the police had reason to believe the compartment was in his car prior to pulling him over, then maybe lama is right.

And if they wanted a reason to pull him over so they could "find" the compartment and obtain a search warrant for his home, I'm sure that was easy. This clown was once nabbed going 120 in his Ferrari. There's NO WAY he drives 40 in a 40 zone. On a typical day, you could probably pull him over after following him for 30 seconds.

Pulling someone over for speeding doesn't mean you now have probable cause to search their car. You don't. If this compartment was in plain sight than that's his tough luck and he deserves what he gets. But, if the cops found it after going through the car on some pretext, then the warrant could be tainted. There is a legal doctrine known as "fruit from the poisonous tree". It means that if you violate someone's rights up front, you don't get to benefit from what you find downstream if it's connected to that first incident.

I have no idea what the facts are here beyond what you said about TMZ. I'm just speculating. But, regardless, it's a sure bet his lawyers will make pretrial motions to have all the evidence suppressed because that's Criminal Law 101. Not doing that would be malpractice.
