Yes, but you didn't need a special counsel assigned for any of that. Maybe you don't get Manafort and Flynn without the Mueller investigation and maybe you do. Who knows? But, this whole thing was predicated on the idea that Trump and his campaign actively worked with the Russians to influence a US presidential election. And, there were former high ranking officials of the intelligence services who were saying, repeatedly, that Trump had committed treason and was a Russian agent. And, all we came up with was he paid off a porn star and may have violated campaign finance laws.
You have to admit, that looks pretty pathetic. And, all the people who pushed this narrative - and mostly the press - look like a bunch of schmucks. Going forward it doesn't matter Trump does and how much evidence there is because over 50% of the country is not going to believe it. Absent an economic collapse, they basically handed him a 2nd term.
