Jeez, that's painful.

I am not sure who this was geared towards but here the the stats:

I counted at least 20 defensive offsides. The problem is that Qbs know it is a free play and can take a chance throwing the ball. BTW, a chunk of these offsides come at the worst time

Did anyone see that apparently Marvin Lewis un-quit from the Bengals and received a 2 year extension?

People take it for granted that the Browns are the worst ownership in football but I'm not convinced they are even the worst ownership in Ohio.

I looked it up. In the entire history of the NFL, only one other person has been an NFL HC for at least 15 seasons without winning a single post-season game -- Jim Mora. And Mor'a's 15 seasons as HC were with 3 separate teams. No one comes close to Lewis for surviving 15 years with a single team without a post-season win.

Like I said - I'm not sure the Browns are even the worst NFL ownership in Ohio.

Oh, Dad!

:D

I think this story is about as ludicrous as someone paying John Gruden $100,000,000 but that just happened, so who knows.

It's 1000x more ludicrous. The Raiders are owned by a nincompoop. That makes the story somewhat more plausible. The other story is something you'd expect to read in The Onion.

Every time I'm convinced that the national sports media can't possibly top their most recent foray into lunacy, they prove me wrong.

The NY press are all reporting the Giants are about to hire Patriots Defensive Coordinator Matt Patricia. Until I saw the stories I never even heard of him.

dad - what do you think? Good choice? Bad choice? Impossible to say for certain? And, have any of Belichick's assistants gone on to do well as a head coach? O'Brien did ok with PSU but he hasn't really set the world on fire in Houston. Charlie the Hutt was a bomb at Notre Dame. McDaniels bombed with Denver. I'm not optimistic here.

As with all coordinators, impossible to say for certain. The only Belichick assistant I can recall that had success as a HC was Nick Saban. But that goes back to Belichick's days in Cleveland.

Patricia is no dummy. He played football at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and got a degree in aeronautical engineering, but decided to go into coaching. He's been with the Patriots for 14 years. Like most Patriots coaches, he worked his way up from go-fer to position coach to DC. He has a reputation for being a solid DC, but his personality is a total mystery because Belichick doesn't let his coaches interact with the media. He's most likely being considered because of who he works for.
