I don't know why baseball people wouldn't be happy with him. It was game 1 of a double header, it was a blowout , and he had no idea how many bullpen arms he'd need in game 2. Putting position players in to pitch was the only logical decision. I think he would have gotten creamed by the media if he hadn't done that.

Just don't let them drizzle that melted Cheese Whiz on it. That stuff is made from recycled window caulk and yellow dye #4.

You failed to mention that it's also delicious. You're welcome.
Yeah, well, that's like your opinion, man.

How bout them apples. Phillies gave up 30 runs yesterday and actually gained ground on the Braves.

And congratulations to the Orioles. They are now 50.5 games out of first place.

That is an awesome achievement.

I have yard work to do, but it's raining (AGAIN) so I figured I'd do some office work today and do yard work on Monday. Anyhoo, the Yankees-BlueJays game was on. The Blue Jays were starting a pitcher making his 2nd major league start. He got shelled in his first one. The game was over by the 3rd inning.

The AL is somewhat of a mess right now. Three very good teams, three pretty good teams and nine dumpster fires. And it results in a lot of bad games. On any given day, there might be a couple of good games (like the Oakland-Houston series), but most of the AL regular season product right now is crap. Perhaps this has always been the case and I'm just noticing it now because I work from home and there's a game somewhere on the tube every day.

Jacob DeGrom dominated the Phillies for 9 innings yesterday. That was the 10th complete game this season. I don't mean that was DeGrom's 10th complete game. And, I don't mean it was the Mets 10th complete game. I mean it was the 10th complete game thrown in all of MLB this entire season.

It is late August and there have been a total of 10 complete games thrown this season. This is not your father's MLB.

It's not even my MLB. I still remember game 4 of the 1975 WS. The Red Sox had to have it. Luis Tiant didn't have his best stuff, but he was given a lead and refused to relinquish it. He threw 163 pitches in a complete game win.

That's obviously never going to happen again.

You're never going to see a guy with a 163 pitch count again. These guys make too much money to risk their arms like that.
