I've decided it's easier to be a front runner when it comes to pro sports fandom. I will no longer be shackled to a decision I made when I was 7 and listening to Mel Allen glowingly report on the wonderous play of Brooks, Frank, Jim, Boog, Paul et .al. I enjoyed the Ripken years. I was understanding when they traded Moose and even owned a hat with the stupid orinthogically correct bird. But there comes a time when you have to realize a relationship isn't working anymore - and that occurs when Chris Davis cashes in about $65MM over three years to hit .200 and strike out 600 times, you replace the bad Ubaldo Jiminez deal with the bad Alex Cobb and you let Nick Markakis go and replace him with Nolan Reimhold / Joey Rickard / Colby Rasmus and a host of other journeyman.

I'm out. I may be and Astros or Brewers fan in a week, who knows. But I am done with the Orioles (unless they get good again).

Penn State is the only team for life. Everyone else is on a year to year deal.

Seriously, when does a team from Milwauhkee win anything?? How can you not pull for the Brew Crew? And, sadly, I think they have the worst chance of the remaining 4. You never know, though. Who picked them to go this far?

The Green Bay Packers have a nice championship history.

I know they're not in Milwaukee, but they are in the same geographic area.

dude, in your dreams did Chris Davis hit .200 last year. He hit .168, which is well below .200.

That's why I was a fan of the S.F Bay Bombers roller derby team when I was a kid. They always won.

Mrs psu_dad: That's because it was fixed.
Me: No way.

He's hit about .200 over a 3 year span - you can write off a bad year but if you look over a 3 year span he's gone from shaky (low BA lots of Ks but good power numbers) to bad (low BA lots of K drop in power) to historic awful (bad everything). Only way it gets worse is he doesn't accept a buyout and Orioles have to endure another couple years of trotting him out there or eat $96MM. From what I've read I think he has a Bobby Bonilla deal so the Orioles will be paying long after the Red Sox and several other of my favorite teams win WS titles and possibly after I shuffle off this mortal coil.

If Davis were old and seriously injured, I could maybe see him taking a buyout to walk away. But he's not.

The good news for the Orioles is that he's their only $$$ problem. Their current 2019 payroll obligation is very small (< 60M). And after next year, it's even smaller. They can start rebuilding right away, The only guy left to unload probably can't be unloaded.

Lenny says the driver was "crazy," and drove 100 mph while trying to kidnap him.

Mrs psu_dad: And you believe him?
Me: He seems pretty stable to me.

Another established baseball executive turns Mets down

I can't see how this doesn't end with the Mets turning into perennial World Series winners.

I think Lama may be on to something. HEY LAMA - who are we a fan of this week?
