The Mets typically don't do that. They like guys to prove they can play in AAA before they call them up. There have been 2 exceptions in recent years. The first is when they called up Michael Conforto directly from AA ball in 2015. They did that right before the Cespedes trade and the speculation after they traded for Ces was Conforto would go right back down. But, he hit so well they kept him. The second exception is happening in real time with this Nido kid. They are also calling up a a catcher from AAA at the same time but I'm reading Nido is going to be the starter.

Montero has not yet cleared waivers so it's possible someone will claim him to block the Mets from taking him. Depends if someone is willing to do that and eat the salary.

It's 32 degrees right now with snow flurries and the Red Sox have just taken the field. Thirty. Friggin. Two.

It's not much better in Flushing, Queens. It's in the low 40s but with the wind it feels a whole lot colder. The players are wearing ski masks on the field. It looks brutal out there. I'm cold watching it.

Weather this spring has been awful. Tomorrow it's supposed to warm up but we're expecting a storm all day. I am in New York a bunch of days this coming week and sloshing in tomorrow is not going to be fun. I think I'll wear jeans in and change into a suit when I get to the hotel. But, this spring has been awful. I'm tired of April showers already.

Btw, the cold isn't bothering Syndergaard. He just struck out his 8th batter in a row and has whiffed 9 in 4 innings. Hasn't given up a hit, either.

They're scheduled to play tomorrow morning (the annual Patriot's Day game) but it's supposed to rain all day. I think that's why they didn't want to cancel today's game. I don't remember the last time I saw this many empty seats at Fenway Park at the start of a game. I'm sure it was a near sell-out, but a lot of people decided to pass on this one. And the ones who are there look miserable.

The national weather service at Logan airport is reporting a wind-chill temperature of 22 degrees.

That's cold. Baseball is not meant for this type of weather. I keep waiting for the big warm up. Supposed to be in the mid to high 50s the rest of the week but probably cooler at night.

Btw, Rachel Robinson was at Citi Field for Jackie Robinson day. I can't believe she's 95. I think she's in better shape than I am.

Bartolo Colon lost a no-hitter in the 8th. He was perfect thru 7. 7ks so far.

Break it out for Big Sexy.

BTW- look at the Fightin' Phils!! I am struggling to watch baseball at this point. Sixers and Flyers are on every night. My wife already gets irritated at the amount of sports I watch:) The nice thing is that she does like watching basketball so guess who is watching basketball with his family tonight?

BTW- look at the Fightin' Phils!!

They swept 2 of the worst teams in baseball. The Reds and Rays are terrible. The only team worse is the Marlins. Win a series against a team that may finish over .500 and then come talk to me.
