They're a lock for the post-season, but I'm sure they'd like to avoid that fakakta Wildcard game.

I heard the final score of the Mets-Nats game on the ride in, but just got around to reading about the game. While the broadcast team may have given up on the game, the sportswriters were busy working in digs and one-liner:

"Steven Matz, one of the core four of pitchers the club refused to part with due to delusions of grandeur that they can contend in 2019 with this roster as currently constituted, got lit up by the Nationals."

"Tanner Roark even getting in on the fun with two knocks and three RBI. His batting average (.195) is about 20 points higher than that of Jose Reyes, who did not get an at-bat Monday night but did take the mound for the first time in his career, doing about as well as you might expect ..."

"Wilmer Flores exited the game early with dizziness. It’s a wonder he was the only one, with the amount of times Mets players had to spin around to watch baseballs leave the park."

Where's Bob Uecker when you need him?

Top of the 3rd ,,, Orioles 6 Yankees 1 ... If this holds up (and it probably won't) I may wet my pants.

Did you not read my comments on the game last night? Reyes pitching for the cycle is the funniest thing you will read this month. And, me presenting it as a nail biter?

The problem is it's a smart joke and a smart audience would get it.
Alex Cora sucks. Mickey Callaway sucks. Baseball sucks. Everything and everyone just sucks. Is it football season yet?

BTW, I just saw Reyes was pitching in the 8th inning and hit Zimmerman on an 0-2 count. It was hilarious because Zimmerman pretended to rush the mound. I think Reyes threw the ball about 65 MPH

I did read your post, B-Dub. And I got the joke, but wasn’t thinking about that when I read the write up over lunch. Probably because of the meetings in between.

So the Red Sox win with a complete nobody on the mound. A 27-YO 27th-round guy making the league minimum. What a gift. I didn't see that coming.

The Mets just called up a kid they got in the Familia trade. To make room on the 40 man, they did NOT cut Jose Reyes. What a nightmare and it is exactly as I predicted.

Jose Reyes must have some nasty pictures of Jeff Wilpon. It's the only explanation as to why he is still on the team.

What's his contract situation? Is someone else paying his salary? I suppose that would make him attractive to the Mets.

He's on a 1 year, $2M deal. The Mets owe him just under $1M at this point.

I said this before but I'll repeat it - the the Steel Document is real but the press got it wrong about it having Trump in it. That's Jeff Wilpon watching the peeing hookers, and Jose Reyes has the original footage. It's the only explanation.
