I don't feel bad for any of these fools at all. You make your bed...Antonio Brown will still be a douchebag. Bell thinks he make a smart financial decision last year but he is an idiot. The time to make your NFL money is NOW. He gave up 14 million in guaranteed money. If he thinks he will make up that 14 million after this contract he is an idiot. 14 million should set you and your family up for a few generations.

Bell gave up $14M in guaranteed money and ended up with $35M in guaranteed money. By my math his risk paid off for him. He could have played last year and gotten hurt. Now if he gets hurt he walks away with more than double what he had from Pittsburgh. So, I'm having a tough time seeing how he was an idiot.

I tend to agree. NFL contacts are all about the guaranteed money, not the gaudy "total value" number. Multi-year NFL contracts are actually structured as a series of annual club options. Clubs can generally terminate the contract at the end of each year. But if you get a large signing bonus up front then (a) the team has a financial incentive to keep you around and (b) you walk away with a nice piece of change if they don't.

He could have made that 14 million and then signed another 35 million contract. Realistically, Bell got 21 million because he lost 14 millions last year. BTW, from what I gather the Steelers offered him a contract that was more money than this. Either way, I don't think Bell won in this situation. As far as the Brown contract, the Steelers screwed themself on that contract. Brown's 21 hits the Steelers cap for this year. You have to really want to get rid of a guy if he is going to go against your cap 21million and won't play a down for your team.

He could have made that 14 million and then signed another 35 million contract.

Or he could have made that 14 million and torn up his ACL.

It's hard to say whether he made the right move or not. There's too much uncertainty. If he had accepted the franchise tag, his only 100% guarantee was making 14M. Now he's guaranteed to make 35M.

A meteorite could fall on your head when you walk out of the house today. Anything can happen to anyone. I thought it was hilarious when gas bags were saying that Zion, the Duke basketball player, should sit out the rest of the year and not play basketball after his shoe blew apart. That's a joke because the dude is going to get paid. Yes, it is possible that something could happen but he could get killed in a car accident and never see that money. My point is that no matter what Bell gets paid you should add 14 million beaners because that is what he lost by sitting out a year to do what? He is in his prime and NFL RB start to decline once they hit 30. Bell acts like he will make up that 14 million later in life, but RB contract statistics say otherwise.

He was guaranteed 14 and now he's guaranteed 35. I don't see how that isn't better for him. And, if we subtract 14 from the 35, he's still better off. It's impossible to know what would have been had he played last year but assessing the facts that we have I think it worked out pretty well for him. He held his ground and got the money he wanted. I say good for him. And, if he gets hurt, he still has $35M.

If I asked my insurance agent for a meteorite policy, he'd probably charge me 25 cents a year. If/when the Jets insure Bell's health, it's probably going to cost 6-figures (or more) a year. Why do you suppose that is?

There's value to "certainty". Bell has that now and it only cost him a year of his career. Without a crystal ball, there's no way to definitively evaluate his decision. But it seems prudent to me.

The way I see it, Bell rolled the dice and won. Good for him.

If I could take a year off from work and get a $21,000,000.00 pay raise for it, you bet you sweet ass I would do it.

I agree, Bell won! And Dad, I knew you would pull out some insurance probability chart of of your arse :D I am just saying that he could have gotten more. Yes, he got millions which should take care of his family for a few generations. I was just stating that he could have gotten more and time will tell. I am not a fan of how he went about it but it is his money, fame and legacy. I hate him and I hate the Steelers so I was glad to see the team implode!

The wife and child are away all night so I am heading to the track and casino to play the ponies and some blackjack. Enjoy your weekend!
