2016 Team Thread

So I'm reading that Shoop is in Knoxville today interviewing for the UT DC job which came open a few days ago. Good for him, potentially bad for us. But, I don't want PSU to be the end of the line for good ass't coaches - I'd rather it be known for good coaches doing well and moving on if they're capable. Shoop's definitely one of the good ones.

Dang, I really thought after the raise last year he would probably stick around for at least a few years.

Sorry to double post, but he must not be as happy with Franklin as he says. UT's last Defensive Coordinator made about half of what Shoop does at PSU so what's up? It's a lateral move at best in the coaching world so has to be something other than "opportunity" going on.

Interesting that he supposdly told Auburn he wasn't interested @ $1.5M & somewhere i read that he said PSU was where he wanted to be...especially after his raise last year. If he goes, I hope we get someone who emphasizes tackling. Can't blame him, of course, for looking for opportunities, but like Shore, I think its curious that the talk is apparently about a lateral. Maybe Tennessee is looking at Associate Head Coach & bigger dollars.

They'll give the money. Remember that he lived in Tennessee while at Vandy. Word is his family likes it there.

I sure we won't see the stability of the past in the future and that is a good thing for the most part. There are pluses and minuses for each scenario but I'd rather be know as the cradle of coaches than the retirement home for coaches. We will face a learning curve with each new hire but each new hire brings in new blood and ideas, a good thing.

I suppose he has roots there from his time with Vanderbilt. It's one thing to lose a DC who gets to be a head coach, but it would suck to lose him to another job as a DC.

Hiring a new DC should be relatively easy for PSU if Shoop leaves,

The only good way to spin this is that perhaps his wife didn't like living in State College. And anyone who thinks that isn't a factor has never been married.
