2012-2013 Recruiting

Postby pennst92 » Fri Aug 31, 2012 9:34 pm

Rumors and such...

So far most of the kids have stayed true to their verbals, though undercurrents have all keeping an eye on things just in case, specifically regarding accreditation.

Latest news Neiko Robinson suspended six games for punching a kid during a preseason game. Some versions have him defending his brother...regardless, he's done for half a year. No word on if this affects his offer from PSU (likely not).
A good team has to have players capable of making plays...oh, wait - we're so there!

True re Neiko. What actually happened was, an opposing player was taking cheap shots. Coach complained to the refs but nothing was done to stop it. Kid took one too many cheapies and Neiko got in his face, kid sucker-punched him & ref saw (as usual) the retaliation. No excuse whatsoever, but he has zero history of anger issues out there, so take that for what it's worth.

Sounds to me like the kid deserved to be punched.

One name to keep in mind is 3*, 5'11", 205 lb RB Roman Clay out of Lancaster Catholic. He lit up his opponent this past weekend for, like, a million yards. I don't think that he has any D1 offers yet, but, if he is able to work out an early enrollment into college, PSU could very likely offer.

This happened a couple of nights ago, but Penn State has picked up a commitment for the Class of 2013 Kasey Gaines, a 5'10", 3* safety from Georgia. Ted Roof was his recruiter. Chose Penn State over Harvard. Camped at Penn State this summer.

PSU has gotten a commitment from Tanner Hartman, a former Maryland commit. They had him labeled as a 3 star on 247 sports. He is a lineman listed at 6-4 and 255 lbs so obviously a guy that will need to pack on some weight. Welcome Tanner.

Yes, welcome Tanner!

Per FOS we now have 11 commits. I assume that means only four schollys left to give? (Sorry if a dumb question, but I don't follow recruiting that closely).

Crow,

This year will be a bit different. We can only count 15 kids against the Class of 2013. However, if we can find kids to enroll early (January), we can count them against the Class of 2012. If I remember correctly, we can actually take 7 early enrollees. Adam Breneman will be one of them. CB Jordan Smith will be another. So, that means we have 2 getting counted retroactively against the Class of 2012, and 9 who are getting counted against the Class of 2013.

I haven't read anything along these lines, but I wouldn't be surprised if the staff look to the JuCo ranks to try to fill some of those early enrollee spots - say a DB, a S, a DT and an OT.

So what happens to the scholarships of the kids that leave? Are they just lost forever? Is the limit 'X" footbal scholarships or "Y" per football year? When we get rid of a player we have that scholarship available across the entire program?
