Class of 2018 Recruiting

Postby PennState03Chris » Sat Feb 27, 2016 4:58 pm

Never too early...

First to fall from today's Junior Day is Micah Parsons, DE out of Central Dauphin and #3 overall in the very early 2018 rankings.

I am learning to never count these "commits", but this is still very exciting. One of the top players in the whole country and would be the biggest recruit we have gotten since D Will. He is a PSU fan and from in-state, so hopefully that means our chances of keeping him are quite good...

As a Freshman...in HS...he dominated his league. Did have some off the field issues this year limiting him to 8 games, but the guy looks like a real deal player. 5 stars pretty much confirms the eye test.
A good team has to have players capable of making plays...oh, wait - we're so there!

Unless of course Michigan's AD approves Harbaugh's request to lease a fleet of F-35's to deliver via laser-guided missile several dozen UM teddy bears down Parsons' chimney and parachute a few hundred UM football alumni bearing precious gifts to his front door.

Rumor mill has it that Harbaugh is hiring Witvoet and Lemonier as consultants at large to "drop in" where needed and solve problems in recruiting, ball placement, time keeping, general debauchery and all things Harbaugh. Personally Wivoet may not be able to find his way out of the parking lot and into the stadium, much like his last 20 years as head ref. He won't be effective as much more than a scare crow, a scary scare crow wearing blockhead M everywhere.

Realistically this young man sounds like a great prospect who we need to keep locked down, within reason. Fickle, thy name is early recruiting. The Conference continues to load up with competitive head coaches, now Lovie Smith at Illinois. While I do not think he is a Harbaugh/Meyer type he carries a pro pedigree that will turn heads of impressionable young men. Our advantage of hiring a silver tongued recruiting machine in Franklin two years ago is being met by others.....

The Love Smith hiring doesn't concern me. He's a lifelong NFL guy with no high school connections and zero recruiting experience.

He is in Illinios so I don't care too much about him. How many kids do we recruit from Illinios/Chicago area? Let him battle with Hardbaugh for some kids

I think Lovie's NFL experience will help with recruiting for a little bit because he can sell kids on knowing what it takes to get to the NFL. But he has to win pretty immediately or it will just be the same old Illinois. He has recruited before it's just been a long time.

That's what Charlie Weiss thought too. He was going to walk into houses and show people his super bowl rings and everyone was going to beg to play for Charlie the Hutt. Didn't work out that way, though.

I think Smith is going to have many of the same problems that Fat Charlie had. The one advantage Smith has is that he's actually been a head coach before. Not a great head coach, but a head coach. Maybe that gives him some edge.
