Regarding conversations in the WH... The secret service responded a day or so ago to a FOIA request saying that they do not have any recordings from the Comey sessions. However, there are stories of conversations when Obama was in office and he told a guy that the WH would send him a copy of the transcript. It seems to me that the infrastructure is in place, but I don't know how often it is used. I am not implying that there are hidden microphones or anything, but I wouldn't be surprised of there were. I know congress has a cable and fiber system that feeds from the various committee rooms through a medium sized server and on to a fairly decent sized console unit that provides audio and video to C-Span and whatnot. I would expect something similar across PA Ave.

I'll say it - there are hidden microphones.

Maybe some bad grammar - I wasn't saying Paris Accord's mission was to fight disease - just a similar "global initiative" that ends up straying form it's mission.

I've seen some cities / localities plan to continue aspects of the accord - and I think that's fine - I expect they will approach the issue in a more pragmatic and cost effective manner than a bunch of "world leaders" having dinner at some European resort.

Yeah - and as far as gossiping, spying, manipulation and infighting I suspect most DC buildings - including the White House are not far from an episode of "The Jersey Shore". So the CIA planting mics or DT doing would be zero surprise.

I need to say once again that I appreciate the quality of discussion on this board. I have been in and out of my office today and have been following the developments of the shooting at the gop congressional baseball practice. I didn't bring it up earlier because it was still a fluid scenario and I didn't have time to read much more than the headlines, which were all over the place. Now that things are settling sown for me at work, and the story has started to become more clear I have taken the time to read a little about it. I also read some of the comments after the article to get a feel for what people think. Please remind me to stop doing that... For anyone who thinks that the internet was made for porn, it was also made for the anonymous internet tough guy. I don't care which side of the aisle or whatever it is that floats your boat; there is an anonymous internet tough guy out there waiting to blast you for whatever thought may cross your mind and/or keyboard. I am sure you have all seen them, they first appeared to me on a saxophone forum (I still can't figure out why) then some showed up on an espn psu football group and another one that I used to visit. Thankfully, they don't come here; maybe there was an IQ test or something or B-Dub and friends just do a great job patrolling the gate. Still, they are all over the political comments sections and I should know better than to even read what some of these jackwagons think.

So, I am glad the congressman wasn't killed and grateful for them that there was a big wig who deserved security which nipped this in the bud. I also have to add that this guy who tried this seems to have been a pretty bad shot if accounts are correct. Over 50 rounds fired with only three wounded? While it is three too many, this cold have been much worse.

One of the best things about the internet is that almost everyone has access. Unfortunately, that's also one of the worst things about it. I wouldn't post comments on a wide-use site like espn.com if my life depended on it. It's impossible to tell if you're arguing with a 40-year-old psychopath or a 14-year-old troll.

Usually the narrow-interest sites have less pyschos/trolls, unless of course, the narrow interest is Satanic Worship or Inflatable Plastic Women. It's a little surprising that a saxophone forum would have issues.

I've often wondered that about you, _dad, but the snarkiness/sarcasm is way too good to be a kid! And, no, I am not calling you a psychopath...

I thought the same thing back then. There was one cat who would come in and clone (if that's the right word) a posters identity, more or less, and start stirring up emmert all over the place. I was one of the early ones he imitated and it really pissed some folks off. I didn't understand what was going on because he had his own name but my protocol address or something. I had a guy from New Zealand threatening me for the thing he thought I said. it was very odd, to say the least...

Been really busy the past few days, hence my absence. Regarding the shooting in Virginia, that was just awful. I did notice that certain fringe elements of the right seemed to be somewhat ghoulishly celebrating that this guy was a left-wing loon instead of the normal right wing loon that normally gets associated with these tragedies. For me, all this really does is validate that there are crazy people in all walks of life. Fortunately, it looks like the only person who died was the lunatic who showed up shooting at everyone. I hadn't seen an update on Scalise yet today but what I saw yesterday indicated he was in critical, but still stable, condition. I saw some interviews today with some of the people who were there and it sounds like they were all just incredible lucky. One staffer was lying in the outfield and the guy kept shooting at him. He finally shot him through the leg. The bullet went clean through and the guy just got up and ran to the dugout and made it. The people there put a tourniquet on his leg to control the bleeding and today he was fine. On tv and talking about it. A little shaken up but alive and will fully recover.

All in all, it could have been much, much worse. Tragically worse. I'm glad it looks like everyone will recover. And, the two cops that brought the guy down are absolute heroes. They ran into harm's way and exchanged fire with this idiot and brought him down. They are being hailed for what they did by everyone and it is well deserved. The cops take a lot of abuse when they do wrong - as they should - but when they do something like this it should received attention as well. I'm glad these two are getting the recognition for what they did.

Meanwhile, there was another deadly mass shooting out in, I think, San Francisco area that barely got any coverage. Such is life. And, anyone want to take an over/under bet on how many days this new "group hug" feeling in Congress is going to last? I give it 2 weeks, max.

Well said, B-Dub. As far as the group hug feeling, once the pitcher throws inside a little too much or a batter crowds the plate during the charity game, all bets are off!

Seriously, I would like for these elected officials to make more of an effort to show us they can usually at least talk and consider compromise; it's almost as if they need marriage counseling. As for the talking heads in the MSM, for some the grace period is over if it even started. I would like to see them act more responsibly across the board as well.

While I'm at it, I wouldn't mind getting the lucky numbers for the next mega millions drawing. I probably have a better shot at that...

The response from the extreme left hasn't been very nice either

http://thefederalist.com/2017/06/14/ins ... -thus-far/

And that's the problem when you invest so much identity into an extreme political position (right or left) - you end up defending the indefensible and credibility ends up going in the crapper.
From partisan obsessions with Billy getting BJs, Obama's birth certificate and screaming impeachment if Trump so much as litters this pandering to extremist elements just erodes any confidence the 70% of the population sitting left-center, center, right-center have that practical issues like infrastructure, immigration reform / border control, and fiscal discipline will ever get addressed.

Tragedies are not for exploitation and to dove tail the media thread - this behavior by the extreme left and right media and politicians are what drives identity politics and division.
