This smells of BS and reads like fiction.

I hope so.

I guess in this post-Paterno era this is what we are going to have to deal with on a yearly basis. :?

No. The writer is simply saying he could be a candidate, and I guess by all accounts, he could very well be.

But, I don't see Franklin to USC. And we will have to deal with this every year from now on.

You can listen to the full podcast below. Feldman and Mandel discuss Franklin-to-USC rumors from 2:37 to 15:10.

Rumor? So if you engage in speculation, if you make up stuff just to have something to talk about, it becomes a rumor? That's really stretching the definition of the word.

Yeah, if somebody says something suddenly it becomes a rumor. There is no way Franklin is going to USC, or anywhere else for that matter. Yeah, we'd all like a few more wins but there are probably about 120 or so other schools that would love to have PSU's record the last three years. It seems like he's generally recruiting good kids in the classroom and the community as well as on the field. I just laugh when people say he is a fraud. How would that even be possible? Maybe you get lucky and fake something for a year but two 9 win seasons at Vanderbilt and now on cusp of potentially three 10 or more win seasons in a row? You can't fake that. If we're honest with ourselves, 9-3 (assuming they beat Maryland) is pretty good given what the team lost both in production on the field and on the sidelines with coaches leaving.

Completely agree shorelion. I don’t get people throwing ideas against a wall and somehow gets reported as something that people will put stock in.

Love the way the article basically paints coaching at PSU as being akin to all the joy of a winter vacation in Siberia while the USC job doesn't have a single downside and CJF will be received - well like a beloved general parading down the streets of ancient Rome. Wonder if that's the picture of paradise the 4 coaches USC had in the last 8 years were expecting.

Franklin has been strongly supported by the PSU admin, the majority of fans and has built a strong program / recruiting base and culture that is on the cusp of being an elite team - so he's going to walk away from that to go rebuild the USC program where he would need to assemble a new staff and restock the roster in an area he has no recruiting base.

Yeah, sure.

And I will be turning into a unicorn at 4PM today and will be flying up and down the East Coast farting rainbows - so you might want to ditch work early and gather up the fam - going to be spectacular.

Hey both premises are possible, but neither are probable.

Going to be honest, that made me laugh.
