A balance between keeping Sequin in the Heisman race and keeping him rested and healthy. We can work on what we need to work on with other RB's in the game. Yes, Mcsorely has to run to be a future threat. I predict 100% shotgun.

You know what a great play would be is for Mcsorely to go behind the center and act like he is changing the play while taking a snap. Can he do that without a procedure call?

Dec 7 2002 looks like the first time Paterno ran the shotgun with Rashard Casey. Only ran it 4 times that day. After 35 years. Upset Drew Brees. Now coach says he will not use a fullback on short yardage and it is assumed he will not allow the QB under center.

But this is throwback week

It was before 2002. Casey didn't play at PSU after the 2000 season. 2002 was the year of Zack Mills and Larry Johnson with some occasional Michael Robinson thrown in. Pretty sure that Purdue game when they broke out the shotgun was in 2000.

Inside the 10 we will see Sanders line up at Tailback and Saquon at Fullback for the first time in the Franklin era. This will be a tribute formation used every time we get inside the 10.

Inside the 20 we can look forward to a triple option and some wing-t sets...and at least one fake field goal.

Welcome to throwback Saturday at State College.
What the H... was that? Oh, Barkley!

Tomorrow I will tell you all the exact date PSU did first shotgun snap because - I have a little bar in my garage with PSU stuff on it and that ticket is mounted with a notation documenting the use of the shotgun snap - no Emmert.

It was 9/30/2000. Penn State won, 22-20. I was there too!

Too bad that was a pretty dreary season though.

I think that was the first game they played after Adam T. got hurt. Joe was almost in tears talking about him after the game.

Joe was more than "almost" in tears. He was dedicating the game to Adam and he had lost all composure. I still remember that moment. And, I recall that Courtney Brown got his paw on a Brees pass, batted it, caught it, and I believe ran it back for a TD. I think that was the same game. Pretty sure.

I also remember the week before after AT went down, and it was obvious he was badly hurt, and OSU had a big lead and the game in hand, John Cooper had his team throw long while the PSU team was still stunned and upset over what happened to Taliaferro. I will always remember that.

I don't think Brown's pick 6 was in that game, as he was a rookie DE for the Browns in 2000.

I do know that Derek (now Cameron) Wake blocked 2 punts that day to help with the victory.
