Two schollies opened up:

Alex Barbir K and Andre Robinson RB have both decided to transfer per 247.

Good luck fellas - hope the frosh kicker coming in has a good leg.

There will probably be a few more transfers as well, I think there has to be 3 or 4 more with the scholarships we are giving out. BTW, instead of transfers, that could also mean a few that don't come back for a 5th year even with one more year of eligibility.

I've got some mixed feelings on all of these departures. The part of me that is entrenched in what Penn State was is concerned to see so many defections (both coaching and playing). Another part believes that this is what elite CFB looks like in terms of turnover and is encouraged that this is a sign that Penn State is moving towards that level.

What do you guys think?

Players are seeing that you have to earn "playing time" and the recruiting that PSU is doing is making that a priority. Some kids will find that it is in their best interest to transfer if they want a chance to start. I think the program is getting better and better recruits and this will cause more "defections" and also we will see a more competitive recruiting class moving forward. I think that is a good thing.

If your assistant coaches are leaving for identical positions elsewhere, that's a sign you've got a problem. If they're leaving for promotions, that's a sign you're doing something right. Schools generally don't raid dysfunctional programs for coaches. It's just a PITA because you have to constantly reload.

I don't know how common player departures are, but I imagine they're pretty common.

Brent Pry in the running to become head coach @Louisiana Lafayette, he was an asst there previously, being considered along with LSU OC Matt Canada and former FL OC Doug Nussmeir

Head Coaching position, but a lateral move prestige and a down grade $ wise.

Ugh! This is so annoying. I hate that all these moves happen before signing day. PSU coming off such a great season, and yet there is a feeling of uncertainty hanging around the program. Players and fans dont deserve this.

The only things I even remotely care about at this point is 1) keeping our draft-eligible players healthy so they can go earn, 2) keeping our stellar recruiting in class in-tact. These coaching changes are fast-jeopardizing the latter. Looks like our two best offensive players are going to remain on board (Slade and Shorter). Worried about the impact this has on our defensive corps, both those have committed and those thinking about it, which includes some top tier talent (including Micah Parsons, Tyreke Smith and Jason Oweh).

From a strictly football perspective, I dont have a read on Pry. Our defense has been torn apart by good offenses. But he has lacked talent in the front seven. So jury is still out I guess.

Darn it.

I think Pry is an extension of Shoop, who hasn't exactly covered himself in glory at UT the past two years. As for the defenses he's coached, I think a lot of the issues go back to depth. Torrence Brown's injury was the first big name, but several others went for various periods of time. Kind of like the oline, in terms of the attrition when Mahon and Nelson went down last year.

I'd like these guys to have a fighting chance to see what they can do w/ a full contingent. That's here now...

As for recruiting, CJF seems to have his act together when it comes to dealing with attrition. He was ready with some new names when he fired Donovan. He was ready after Morehead left. I'm certain if Pry leaves, he'll be ready for the next man up there too.

You think they miss him yet?
