If your head man is really good, coordinators and assistants leaving periodically is not huge problem IMO. I'm ready to put JF in the "really good" category, although next year should finally resolve that question in that it's the first time that an elite talent drain is happening - Barkley, Gesicki, et al. If he pulls a 9-3 together with no humiliations I think he's achieved the "really good" status. As far as guys like Barbir and Robinson leaving, I see that as a good thing for them - Robinson is a talent but was stuck behind YUGE talents, and Barbir didn't show much in his few chances. Schollies open, schollies get filled. I'd only get concerned here if significant OL or DL guys were packing bags.

I never worry about kids leaving or deciding to go elsewhere. That's the nature of the beast and, as JG points out, evidence of a good program. When a good player can't get playing time because of the talent in front of him, that's a good problem for a program to have.

I think Franklin has earned an off year. Not a sub .500 year but an 8 or 9 win season will be fine. I think 2019 is the year to really look forward to now.

The higher the talent level of the recruiting class the higher the chance of transfer should the stars not reach starting status and see that they probably won't. Add in that sometimes star power breeds attitude issues that foment transferitis e.g. the inflammation of the oblique transfer. Once the oblique transfer is inflamed the whole body is in a uproar and must find a pressure relief that only a transfer provides. Sports Med 303 - Inflammations and their outcome in a FBS setting.

Penn State’s Saquon Barkley wins 2017 Silver Football

Saquon Barkley was named the winner of the 2017 Silver Football, the Big Ten MVP award, on Thursday. Penn State’s star running back beat out Ohio State quarterback J.T. Barrett and Wisconsin running back Jonathan Taylor for the honor.

The Silver Football is handed out by the Chicago Tribune and voted on by Big Ten coaches. Barkley received nine of a possible 13 first-place votes for the honor (head coaches can not vote for their own player), while Barrett collected the other five. Barrett and Barkley shared the Silver Football honor in the 2016 season.
What the H... was that? Oh, Barkley!

To add on to We Are's post, Barkley is only the 5th player in Big 10 history to win the award in back to back years (even though last year was technically co winner).

I guess we've really hit the big time. Saban averages about one coordinator per year leaving, plus an assistant or two. :|
