It's rather telling that with the All-BiG Offense announced this morning that we had one lineman (Ryan Bates) getting any kind of recognition - 3rd team, by both coaches and media. No honorable mentions. Even sh!tty (and Stupid) Michigan had more than one, and their offense couldn't run up the score playing the NittanyFootball Board All-Stars.

This is one reason why Moorhead leaving is not overly troubling - with progressive improvement expected out of the O-line next year a lot of tactical shortcomings attributed to JM's loss can be papered over. IF the OL does not improve...well, then we've got a situation, don't we.

Saquon Barkley named Big Ten offensive player, return specialist, and running back of the year

By Greg Pickel gpickel@pennlive.com
Penn State junior Saquon Barkley has been named the Big Ten's Graham-George offensive, the Rodgers-Dwight return specialist, and the Ameche-Dayne running back of the year.

Barkley finished the regular season with a kick return average of 28.4 yards and two touchdowns. He totaled 2,154 all-purpose yards in 2017 and scored 21 times; 1,134 of those yards and 16 of the touchdowns came in the rushing category.

The Big Ten first gave out the returner specialist award in 2015, and so Barkley is Penn State's first winner of it. He is the first back-to-back running back of the year pick since Wisconsin's Montee Ball won it in 2011 and 2012, and he's just the third player ever and the first since Ohio State's Braxton Miller (2012 and 2013) to win consecutive conference offensive player of the year honors. Drew Brees is the other, and Barkley is just the second player in conference history to win three major Big Ten awards in one season, joining former Michigan standout Jabrill Peppers.

Earlier this week, Barkley was a first-team All-Big Ten pick as a running back and also as a specialist, as well.
What the H... was that? Oh, Barkley!

I'm not surprised that he was named Offensive Player of the Year, but a little surprised at RB of the year. I really thought the freshman from Wisconsin would win the RB award.

Huh? Guy was one of our best special teamers? Any news on what happened?
If at first you don't succeed, give up. There is no hope for you.

I heard it from somebody I know who is pretty close to the program. If I recall he did miss a game for at the end of the season but I thought it was for injury. Hopefully it's not true and I'm just a jerk spreading rumors on a message board.

I have not seen anything about it in the media and I've looked a few times (including just now). If it's true, it's being held close to the vest. If he doesn't make the trip to Tempe, then we'll know something is up.
