With the exception of FG kicking, IMO this team is better in every phase of the game than last year - you know the team that ripped off 9 straight victories to win B1? title.

I can't believe anyone would argue that these are the best return units in recent memory - minus a hold against NW we would have 4 ST TDs already - that's awesome. Why do we win the field position battle. Davis deposits about 75% of his KOs in the end zone, Gilliken buries punts inside the 20 like a bad habit and the cover teams haven't allowed anything in returns.

CJF stated coming into season the big goal on D was to increase TOs - done. Getting picks, getting fumbles and they are taking points off the board for opponent and generating points for PSU. Take away NW's meaningless end of game TD against 3rd string and this the 1st unit has pitched 3 shut outs.

NW and IU went in with a "stop Barkley" plan and you could say NW succeeded and held well below his season average for total yardage. Round of applause. What did it get them? Down 24-0 in the 3rd QT and again minus a special team penalty and a shanked field goal they would have been down 41-0 early in the 4th. Teams that actually want to win the gain will realize having 3 guys chase Barkley even when he doesn't have the ball won't win the game. Heck minus a drop on pass catch Barkley normally makes he would have been 125 yards total offense and 3TDs - that' stopping a guy?
As I've said the RPO will produce negative run plays because of the time it takes to make the read - very simply the plays take time to develop and Barkley often gets the ball standing still. Taking that kind of time and never having negative plays is a lot to ask of an OL. The commentators in NW also correctly noted Barkley sacrifices 3 yards here several times a game to try and pop a big one.
The book is out on the PSU offense - we've seen teams key on Barkley and spy McSorely with an LB so once he gets mobile they can limit his running. The RPO won't work if it becomes predictable in terms of down and distance or who will get ball. If everyone knows it's going to Barkley on a delayed handoff on whatever and short he will get stuffed because the play takes to long and any D stuffing box and playing run will have someone coming free. Down and distance shouldn't mean anything to Moorhead - take what you are given. That said I do think quick pitches to Barkley would give him more shots at getting to the edge quickly.
IMO the OL is playing better - they aren't the 94 line but we are getting yards somehow. I would also say Tompkins, Hamilton and Johnson are all playing better than a year ago - very few drops. If Blacknall keeps improving his production watch out.

Moorhead made the first move last year / early this year - teams made their countermoves - now Moorhead needs to make his adjustments.

6-0 guys - been a long time since we've been able to say that - understand there is some tough rowing ahead and some things need to be cleaned up for this team to reach it's goal but the talent and coaching are in place - just need to execute and get a few good bounces.

And if there is one thing I am 100% on - UM at home at 7:30PM coming off a buy with some payback in mind - Beaver Stadium is going to be rocking. So Shore - I agree the "we" is kind of funny (cause it's we when PSU is winning and they when PSU is losing) but I do think fans in stands can make a difference with the noise level - they can deliver a false start call or two.

I don't think anyone disagrees that this is the best PSU team to take the field since maybe 2005, and possibly 1994.

Hey, the things are we are complaining about are nice problems to have. It's a great team. It's been a fun season. My biggest disappointment with the NW game is Barkley was not able to pad his stats in the Heisman race. Like I said - it's a good problem to have.

Michigan at home at night and without the QB they started the season with is a game we should win and win yugely. Anything can happen on any given Saturday but I like us in that game. Let's get through that and then we can focus on the suckeyes.

Man, I wish we had psubob back on this board about now.

Just for debate purposes, the 2008 and 2009 teams were pretty good as well.

It is hard to argue any of this, B-Dub. Sam goes for your comments, Lama!

I was worried we would get blowback because Saquon only rushed 75 yards Saturday, but was pleased to hear so many say that he is the best on the college gridiron. One even said what Lama was saying, his presence alone changes the game!

First of all, I have to laugh every time I see "WE need to do this, WE need to do that . . ." It cracks me up. WE are not doing anything but watching a game and talking about it. Sorry, just a pet peeve.

When someone refers to a local pro team as "we", I find that somewhat cringe-worthy. I've been a fan of the local pro teams for half a century, but there is no "we". Any more than paying an escort to go out with you makes her your girlfriend. I'm reminded of an impromptu press conference that Robert Irsay gave at the Baltimore airport when he returned from a business trip amidst rumors he was moving the Colts. He was clearly inebriated and that acted as a sort of truth serum. When asked if he understood why people were upset at the prospect of losing their team, he growled: "It's not their team. It's MY team".

All that said, if someone refers to the team representing their alma mater as "we", I have no problem with that.

I agree with dad. If its your alma mater you can use we all the day as it is we since you were and are a part of the school, donors that much more as they grease the wheels, particularly the donors who give less but a larger % of their income as it means more to them personally.

Yes, we are finally in the nit pick mode of being successful again. Nice to be back. Far better than the early years of this century and the 6-4 discussions. I was blessed to have our son running cross country and missing that debacle. I bet Ferentz was the saddest coach to see someone different than Joe across the field on game day. Talk about one coach having the others #. Iowa plays football like they wrestle. Watching paint dry and then discovering you lost 6-4 because they wait you out until the clock is at 00:00 leaving you wondering what happened again.

Worse than Ferentz was Lloyd Carr. Don't think Joe beat him ever. Might be wrong about that, but there was like a 10 year period where we did not beat Michigan.

I guess this qualifies as bye week news. ESPN College Gameday is heading to Happy Valley next Saturday for the game with Michigan. That always adds a little something.
