There's very little buzz around here. Partly because of the Patriots, but not solely. The consensus seems to be that the Red Sox will have another good regular season with no shot at a WS. When your top 3 starters have a combined post-season record of 2-13, i suppose it's hard to be optimistic.

Mets signed Todd Frazier for 2 years, $17M. A mere $8.5M per. In baseball economics that's just about free.

3 cheers for whatever bizarre market forces allowed that to happen.

That should really tilt the balance of power in the NL east.

If you're driving up for the press conference, pick me up a knish and a cream soda. The roads are icy around here and I'd rather not go out. TYVM.

Mets need more pitching. There is no reason to believe the guys who can't stay healthy are going to stay healthy this year. Who knows what they have with Matt Harvey. Who knows how many games they will get out of Steve Matz. who knows if Syndergaard will be back to his normal form after tearing a lat muscle last year. Who knows if Wheeler will ever really come back to what he was before the TJ surgery 3 years ago.

The 2018 Mets are a whole lot of upside with an even greater amount of risk. I'm glad they have made some investment, though. Bruce adds a solid bat. Frazier plays a solid 3rd base. Problem with Frazier is that if his offensive numbers were underwhelming in Yankee stadium, he's likely really going to suffer in Citi Field. If he hits over .230 and knocks in 25 home runs, I'd consider that a major victory. I'm not convinced he's even going to do that, though.

He has decent power. He's certainly capable of .230/25/75

It would be hard to believe J.D. Martinez is done entertaining the Red Sox in the free-agent market, but he is apparently telling people he is "fed up" with their inflexibility. According to The Athletic, Martinez has both told people he is willing to hold out for his price and he is tired of waiting on the Red Sox, who have stuck to their reported $125 million offer they gave him earlier in the offseason. -- Sporting News

What does that even mean? He's doesn't have to "wait on" the Red Sox, or anyone else for that matter. He's a FA. He can field all the offers he wishes.

It means he thinks that news about the Red Sox negotiating with him have scared off all the other people who want to pay him north of $125M and he's letting them know that he's still willing to entertain offers from teams not located in Boston. Because, you know, his failure to say that earlier is why all those other teams are not rushing to him with a blank check.

Or, put another way, he, too, is a very stable genius and he's proving to the people who read The Sporting News.

It's a tough year for free agents, veterans and Marlins fans. Why, just yesterday the Marlins jettisoned another major cornerstone of that organization.

How could you not? That's why he was once voted the the "best mascot in all of sports". Sure, that's somewhere between being voted "the thinnest kid in fat camp" and "the hooker least likely to give you syphilis" but it's not nothing.

Again, not a big mascot fan, but putting Wally The Green Monster ahead of the Racing Sausages is ridiculous. The Racing Sausages are a hoot. But Wally needs to be euthanized.
