I wouldn't be shocked if that number was known in advance and there are a couple of players ready to write the check.

Good point. They may have already secretly negotiated this with the Five Families rather than speculating on what they could get.

A monopoly always gets its money and the state has a monopoly on gambling licenses - so they are getting paid. Remember when gas was 50-60 cents a gallon cheaper in NJ than PA (before recent NJ hike) - I live on NJ / PA border and lots of PA people hopped the border to buy gas (and booze / cigs which had lower tax rates in NJ) - that's how my Mustang got murdered - so old retired coot looking to save $5 on a fill up had crossed in to NJ at 7AM and was exiting station just across border and tried to jet across a three lane road and only made two lanes before clipping my beloved.

If there is a big differential in per bet service fees locations that border other states could see and impact on overall volume. If you can place sports bets on line that will really increase competition to keep service fees low.

Rest assured I will be paying far more attention to more college football teams than PSU this fall.

Apparently so. According to this web site, PA already imposes a 34% tax on their existing casinos. So I guess they can get away with it.

PS - That list was an eye-opener for me. I didn't realize what a large bite some states took out of gambling revenue.

Oliver North is the new president of the NRA.

Jeebus, what could go wrong here?

Are you afraid the NRA will become militant and indifferent to public opinion?

They could, but they'd be shooting themselves in the foot, so to speak. :?

Not to double post, but considering Ollie's first act in office was calling the Parkland students "civil terrorists" pretty much tells me all I need to know.

Of course, if your rhetoric is that extreme it indicates you're in a desperate situation.

So on a much lighter note, I'm looking for suggestions from you fine people. My mom is 81, still drives (pretty well) but she needs a new car. She needs something that is fairly easy to get in and out of and not too low. She also really doesn't like sport type or bucket seats but recognizes that is more than likely what she's going to end up with. So I guess she's also looking for something that has a somewhat larger seat so that she doesn't feel "wrapped" by the seat. She used to be 5'10" but she's shrunk a bit over the years. Anybody else have older parents who have a car that really makes them feel comfortable?

I drive a Honda Civic. Forget that. It's low and not particularly easy to get in and out of.

My wife's Honda CRV is just the opposite. It's the type of car where you step up a bit to get in. We always take her car when we drive to PA because it's much more roomy/comfortable than the Civic. An SUV may be more than what your mom needs, but the CRV is smallish as SUVs go.
