Not much of a wrestling guy, but watched the match vs. ASU last night. I was informed the first kid for PSU is their weakest link and that the rest of the lineup was loaded.

How true. How very true.

That was, after the first match, a complete annihilation.

The dominance of the wrestling program is remarkable. The staff is bringing in talent from across the nation and developing it very well. The ASU match last Friday evening is another example of that dominance. ASU lost to OSU by a few points not long ago and lost to PSU by 38 points. Unless there are some key injuries I'd expect another NC in March which will be 8 in 10 years I think. I know of no sport other than possibly fencing, that has done close to that well.

PSU was a giant waiting to awaken and Cael Sanderson was the wake up call. Casey Cunningham sent out an email update earlier this week that provided links to each match so far. They are dominant.

Bo Nickal is amazing. ;) :D
So I got that going for me...which is nice. It's a cross between Kentucky Bluegrass, Featherbed Bent and Northern California Sensimilla so you can play 36 holes on it,take it home at night and get stoned to the begesses belt

Watched the OSU match Friday - PSU was down two starters and still buried OSU 28-9. OSU was #2 in the country.

As Carl said Bo Nickal is unbelievable - he is #1 at his weight and was wrestling #2 and he pinned dude in about 90 seconds. Guy was in on his legs a couple times and before you could blink Nickal slapped a cradle on him and smack down done. Went on youtube and watched some of his matches - his ability to counter deep take down shots and turn them into pin combos is unreal.

Both the team and Nickal have 56 dual meet win streaks going. If the team is healthy I don't see any way they don't win title again.

There is a news article that they recreated the block scoop and score prior to the match.

https://www.pennlive.com/pennstatefootb ... state.html.

Like it but maybe not good taste. Kind of the ultimate bulletin board material to get the fans loud. No plays to call in wrestling guess loud doesn't matter. They heard the refs hand hit the mat 90 seconds into Bo's match.

They came out with mild upsets in the first two matches.

Things would have to go terribly wrong not to win the B10 and National Championship. Next year will be a challenge.

PSU finished season undefeated and were never even challenged - despite having several ranked guys miss a significant number of bouts. They had the three top dominant wrestlers (determined by average match points earned per bout) in the country. Nolf and Nickal are #1 and #2 all time on PSU pin record list. Nolf's gave up 1 takedown all year while scoring something like 64.

This wrestling team is the 94 Football team offense and the 86 defense rolled into one.

Assuming they stay healthy a Big 1? and NCAA title should be there. NCAAs are in Pittsburgh for anyone in the area.

The latest from Coach Cunningham:

Penn State Wrestling Fans!!!!!!!!!!!!

The regular season has concluded and now we look forward to the most exciting month of the year. There have been a lot of good things since my last update and hopefully many more good things to celebrate in my next. The team has continued to improve over the past couple months and for the first time in a while is at full strength heading into the post season.

After Christmas, this team was able to win the Southern Scuffle again in record-breaking fashion and was able to finish the dual meet season with a Big Ten Title. We were able to honor our senior class this past Sunday for all they have done for Penn State over the past 4 or 5 years as well. We hope to get a couple of those guys back next year because of previous years injuries but there are no guarantees. This senior class will be talked about for a long time and we are very grateful that they chose Penn State. After the season is finished, we will talk more about all that they have accomplished while here but for now they still have a lot of wrestling in front of them.

We will continue to prepare until next Thursday when we head to Minnesota for the Big Ten tourney. It should be an action packed couple of days of wrestling. After the Big Ten tourney, we come back and train for another 1.5 weeks until the National Tournament starts in the great city of Pittsburgh. We understand that there are many frustrated people with not being able to get NCAA tickets this year and we are sorry that is the case. With a somewhat smaller venue, supposedly 10,000 more requests then last year, and the national tournament in Pennsylvania, it made for a difficult ticket to come by. Next year should be a more ideal situation in regards to getting tickets with it being in a Football stadium but that does not help this year understandably.

With all this being said though we thank the fans once again for another year of complete sellouts in Rec Hall and in the Bryce Jordan Center. It is amazing the support we have and it does not go unnoticed. The opportunity to wrestle in front of sellout crowds is rare and to do it every match here is just incredible. Our guys truly appreciate the support they receive. With that, we look forward to seeing a great crowd in Minneapolis and Pittsburgh over the next couple of weeks.

GO LIONS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I discovered this article that was posted at BSD on wrestling stats as extended to a data point e.g. total minutes of a match or takedowns per match, etc. Of interest to wrestling-centric fans.

Strong B10 Tourney.

Vincenzo better learn another move for that Iowa kid that beat him twice now. The inside trip is a loser.

Nice win by Casar. Home NCAA gives him another year of eligibility. I don't see us as dominant next year.

I don't know if being dominant is more possible - catch me if I am wrong Under but doesn't this senior class have:

4 years unbeaten in dual matches
2 B1? titles
Potentially 3 NCAA titles

PSU has qualified wrestlers in 9 of 10 weight classes for NCAA tourney and it's not a stretch to say 7 of those guys could make it to final four of their weight class. I think for their careers, nearly half of Nickal's and Nolf's victories came by fall.

Yea, pretty hard to say they are more dominant than last year after losing Rutherford but Cassar and Rasheed have stepped up and Lee, Young, and Berge are solid. If we had a top 10 guy at 125 or had Suriano not gotten home sick this team would be rediculous.

We forget history and the new teams are always given the benefit but this team could easily be the best. I mis watching Rutherford abuse people and I will miss Nolf and Nickal. And Taylor/Ruth were a blast to watch.

Cael has recruited and developed some entertaining wrestlers that making wrestling worth watching.
